PAGE 22 TERRACE BAY NEWS MARCH 5, GAME OF THE CENTURY? Last Friday night an event of utmost im- portance? took place at the Terrace Bay Arena where the Kinsmen Clubs of Schreiber and Terr- ace Bay met head-on in the 'Smockey Game of the Century'. Why, you may ask, the game of the century? Well, after only one or two reg -ular shifts on the ice our superbly condit- ioned athletes (?) were much like our critical energy resources - frankly, out of gas. Each team was in much dire physical straits that by the second period recruits of an unbelievably diverse nature had to .be call -ed upon to do battle. Schreiber fielded such novices as "Baby Hughie" complete with diaper and bottle, the "Red Baron" with his trap~-door open, "Fillis Forest" (Birch) in the nets with plenty of 'wood' to stop the 'rubber' and last but not least our own "Abigail", of the Thunder Bay District Health Unit (with or without his or her "booster- shot".) Two "fire-brands" from south-of-the-border | known locally as the 'Tequila Bros.' decked out in their native costume of colourful sarapes and 50 gallon straw hats, masqueraded as coaches. As for Terrace Bay, they managed to dredge up "Schlutz the Hammer", the "Masked Marvel" a fugitive from some ancient and now defunct 'Barber Shop Quartet' complete with drooping mustaches and bowler, and not to be ignored or taken lightly a new protige from the Nat- ional Women's Lib group Ms. Equality - a tramatic mixture of 'Bobby Oar' and 'Phyllis Killer' The final score, appropriately (for Terr- ace) ended in a 6-6 tie including a goal by some nameless little Terrace Bay Tyke, a point for an unconverted touchdown, a one- point field goal and pucks of unaccountable size and number. A very volatile and vocal group of Schrei- ber cheerleaders added extra 'zest' to the already sizzling circumstances, and a local form of 'hi-jack' was being committed along the boards by over-zealous and adoring fans. Residents of both communities who support- ed this endeavour by the Kinsmen to raise funds for the new hospital, appeared to enjoy the evenings parody immensely, and judging from their response a "grudge rematch" is now a definite possibility; with the Schreiber Arena as the next site for the future blood- bath. The time will be announced prior to this event and we would like to encourage the citizens of our two communities to support this project wholeheartedly, and to thank those who supported us in the past. During the Ist and 2nd period of the 'Smo- ckey game', Terrace Bay Kinsmen President, Bob Hopper presented a cheque for $200.00 to Mr. Cy Pyke for the Terrace Bay Ski Club. i The Kinsmen Club has also raised $I90.00 for the McCausland Hospital to be donated at a later date. The Kinsmen would especially like to thank the Recreation Committee for donating the ice time, Miss Debbie Johnson for selling tickets and the rink rats - Robert Landry and Gord Allen for volunteering their time. 3 - For Schreiber Kinsmen "Krusher" : "| Photos by Bob Hopper and Derek Wills. » fai continued page 23 © ee ceo cose ese
