PAGE 20 TERRACE BAY NEWS | SCHREIBER WOMEN SUPPORT COMMUNITY Two Schreiber women, Mrs. Barbara Smart (right) and Mrs. Jean Crook, originated and re- gularly arrange fund-raising evenings to supp- ort their Schreiber Community Fund, from which they-contribute to such associations and pro- jects they feel are in need of support. Their latest contributions were $I50.00 pre- sented to F.V. Harness for Junior hockey and $150.00 to Don Burton for Minor Hockey. And this is not the extent of their local work --- Mrs. Crook being returned for a second term as president of the Women's Auxiliary to the Canadian Legion, Branch I09 and is a Past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star Lodge #I64, and a 30 year member, having been initiated in Carronvale Chapter #64 in Scotland. Mrs. Smart is equally civic-minded, having been one of the original committee which had the dream of installing artificial ice in the local arena - and accomplished it. She is al- so a faithful member of the Legion Auxiliary and for several years convener of their biggest fund-raising project. Mr. and Mrs. Smart came to Schreiber from Scotland in I949 and Mr. and Mrs. Crook (not directly) from Scotland, 8 years ago but the two couples had not met until they came to Schreiber, and both their husbands are named James = Mr. Smart, now retired and Mr. Crook, the C.P.R. constable, and president of the Can- adian Legion, Branch I09, for the second term in office. CHIMO CLUB HOLDS CHRISTMAS PARTY Twenty-eight members of the Chimo Club visited Birchwood Terrace Home in Terrace Bay on December I7th, taking a gift of fruit for the residents. There was no program, but a successful happy few hours of. visiting, little groups assembling and changing during the after -noon. For those interested a tour of the residence was offered and a tea time ended the happy occasion. JANUARY 8, 1975 ! Mrs. Martha Nelson, of Red Rock, former Schreiber resident, was welcomed as a guest at § the Chimo Club's Christmas party. Mrs. Anne Todesco presided for the brief business meet- ing, first, and then welcomed the new officers who took over - George Birch, president; W.T. 4 Wallace, treasurer and Beatrice McCuaig, secre ~-tary. The retiring officers were given a vote of appreciation and following the meeting Christ- | mas carols, and old familiar songs were sung, with Inez McCuaig playing, the main part of the evening's program, being simply visiting, and the favourite pastime of joshing one an- 4 other. 3 Santa, impersonated by Jack Winters, paid + a surprise visit, to distribute the gifts, and the party ended with a pot luck lunch. NEPHEW PRESENTS PLAQUE TO BORDEN ROSS Borden, Ross, coach of the Schreiber North Stars, during their game Saturday night, was presented with a plaque by his nephew Dale Ross on behalf of the Schreiber Minor Hockey Association in appreciation of the many years he both played and assisted hockey in Schreiber During his playing years, in Schreiber, Borden also, in I954 played in Brandon with the Marathon Mercurys when they were district 4 intermediate champions. 4 And for one year, he coached the Terrace Bay team.
