The pupils of the Public School evacuated the school in forty seconds, the High School in forty-five seconds, and the Separate School in 40 seconds. The fire chief, George Maitland, was very pleased with the surprise fire drills and said that the behaviour of the chil- dren spoke very well for the Principals and teachers. I5 YEARS AGO - Vol. 2, No. 40, October 8th, 1959: Terrace Bay Men Elected Conservation Officers - At a recent meeting held in Fort Frances, two Terrace Bay men were elect- ed to office on the executive of the Northwestern Ontaric Con -gervation Federation which is =mlso designated as Zone One of the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters Inc. Stan Hodgkiss was re-elected President of the Northwestern Federation for the 59/60 term and Frank Sechesky was elected to the position of Treasurer which is a new post created since the adoption of a new constitution last spring, divid- ing the former position of Secretary-Treasurer. Bridge at Spidell's Camp to be Demolished - Terrace Bay Fish & Game Association have been advised by the K-C Wood- lands Division that demolition of the bridge at Spidell's Camp will commence next week. Town Topics - Peter Adamo and David Lohr have enrolled in Waterloo University for the next term. Jack Marsh is also a student at Waterloo . Glen Kujbida celebrated his sixth birthday last Saturday when eight boy friends arrived for an afternoon of play and games directed by big brother Michael. His Mother served the birthday fare and distributed treats as they left for home. Mr. Alex Cruickshank of Port Arthur has arrived in Terrace Bay to make his home with his son Forbes and daughter-in-law Betty and Children. Highway Construction - Tenders are being called for paving another seventeen miles of Highway West of White River, thus another small section of the Highway will be completed. To those who use No. I7 to any extent construction seems a nev- er-ending affair and to the casual tourist it must seem appalling. High School Holds Field Day - Last Friday the shivering staff members and suffering athletes of Terrace Bay High School took part in their Annual Field Day. Big winners were: Jane Heenan and Linda MacFadyen, tied for Jr. Girls Champion. Sharon-Leigh Locking emerged as Sr. Girls Champion and Clifford Knauff took the honours in the Sr. Boys events. Paul Heenan placed first among the boys in the Jr. events. The Grand Opening of Terrace Bay Enterprises Ltd., Gener- al Motors Sales & Service was announced in this issue.
