PAGE I4 TERRACE BAY NEWS OCTOBER 9, I974 DINNER HONOURS REBEKAH PRESIDENT Mrs. Grace Love, president of the Rebekah Assembly of Ontario, paid her official visit to Schreiber Ruby Lodge on September I9th. Prior to this special meeting a dinner in Mrs. Love's honour was given in the Restaurant LeBlanc, attended by twelve members, and Mr. Love, who was accompanying his wife on her official tour. Mrs. Mildred Smith, PNG, formally introduc- ed Mrs. Love, at the meeting, and Mrs. Lil Harris, on behalf of the Lodge, presented their gift, a large chrome tray. Mrs. Love brought greetings from the Assem- bly and gave an inspiring talk on the work of the Order, dealing with her project at the I.0.0.F. and Rebekah Home at Barrie, the Eye Bank, the Ontario Research program, Education- al Foundation and the annual United Nations Pilgrimages for youth. Following the meeting Mrs. Gladys Hamilton and Mrs. Shirley Brown convened a social hour. At the Lodge's regular meeting, September 25th, donations were made to the Women's Div- ision Navy League of Canada, and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The Charter was draped in memory of the late William Smith, Charter member, who passed away in Vancouver on September 2nd, and a don- ation made to the Memorial Fund 'at the Barrie Home in his memory. : A penny auction was planned, following the meeting on October 9th with Mrs. Harris and Mrs. Chris as conveners - proceeds for a Lodge project. A vote of thanks was recorded to Mrs. Inez McKevitt, who has donated two large damask tablecloths for the Lodge's use. Mrs. Lil Harris, N.G. and Mrs. Winnie Clemens, PNG, presided for the meeting. At this meeting the Lodge marked its 44th anniver -sary with an appropriately decorated cake. AUXILIARY PLAN INSTALLATION Mrs. Daryl Davis, at the October Ist meet- ing of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Royal Can- adian Legion, Branch I09, volunteered to act again as the Poppy Day chairman, with members 'offering to canvas in various districts, acc- ording to the excellent 'master-plan' of the town used for such collecting. Rae Sisson, one of the students who attend- ed the Peace Garden sports program, thanked the auxiliary for tne opportunity and the ben- efit and enjoyment she had derived. Thunder Bay Cancer Association thanked the auxiliary for its recent donation to Amethyst House. The Branch requested members to att- end the annual November IIth Remembrance Ceremony, at ll a.m. local time. A wreath was ordered to be placed at the cenotaph. 2 Mrs. Chris Morris, membership convener, stated there are 80 paid-up members. Mrs. Jean Crook, Sick and Visiting committ- ee, reported sending cards to both sick and bereaved people in the community. Mrs. Barbara Smart said the Sunday Social evenings are increasing in attendance. Members were disappointed in receiving not- ice of the Sports Meet, in the Lakehead, too late, according to the school principals in- volved, to make arrangements to enter teams in the event. A letter will be sent to the committee in charge regarding this, and, al- so suggesting that notices to all schools be sent at the same time. Mrs. Lorraine Huard volunteered to convene the children's Christmas party, with date set for December I5th. Subject to approval of the Branch, the ten -tative date of December I4th was set for the installation ceremony, a joint affair for both Legion and auxiliary officers. continued page I5 ......
