PAGE I2 TERRACE BAY NEWS SEPTEMBER II,I974 SCHREIBER DETACHMENT OPP PRESS RELEASE During the past week at Schreiber Detachment several minor occurrences were investigated by detachment personnel. Of interest was a truck fire that had everyone moving during the early morning and most of the day. On Septem- ber 4th, I974, a trailer owned by McKevitt Trucking, Thunder Bay loaded with creasote treated railroad ties caught fire at Jackfish and was extinguished at approximately 7:30 a.m. The Terrace Bay Fire Department were again summonsed at 7:00 p.m. when the load; now over -turned in the ditch, lit up again. At app- roximately 10:30 p.m. the fire was finally put out for good. : Two minor traffic collisions were also in- vestigated with about $1500.00 damage to the vehicles involved and no injuries to any of the occupants. Several motorists were also recipients of tickets for various Highway Traffic Act viola- tions. Now that the children have been back to school for a week special attention should be paid by motorists especially during the noon recess and at dismissal time. Many things are going through their minds and sometimes very little attention is paid to other traffic using the roadway. Parents are also encourag- ed to remind children of their duties as ped- estrians and also attempt to impress their bicycle rider of the dangers involved when they ride on the wrong side of the road or dart] through a stop sign. A class room visit and safety lesson will be presented to each class room shortly by the Community Services Officer and children will be trained in the safe ways of getting things done, however, these programs will not work without the help of the people of the community. Remember safety is taught by example . At their meeting held Sunday, September 8th the Schreiber C.W.L. have set the date of November I6th for their bazaar. The Diocesan Regional Meeting will also be sponsored by this C.W.L. to be held in Schrei- ber at the Parish Centre on October 2nd. 4 ~~ STORK CLUB: Born to Mr. and Mrs. Dave McKay (nee Jeanne McCuaig) a son on September 2nd, 1974 at General Hospital Sioux Lookout.
