PAGE I4 TERRACE BAY NEWS AUGUST 28, I974 20TH ANNUAL FLOWER & VEGETABLE SHOW The Terrace Bay Horticultural Society's 20th Annual Flower & Vegetable Show has passed into history. The rain and the bugs left en- ough flowers and vegetables to make a fairly good showing on Saturday, August 24th. The judging chores were handled by Mr. Wal- ter Chomniak of Thunder Bay. The Junior Gardens program, chaired by Rudy Gerlach, showed us that there are still some very green little thumbs in town. In the Garden Competition, Sabina Buhrmann won the United Paperworkers International Union Terrace Bay Local 665, award for the best gar- den in the Junior Section and her brother Os- wald won the same award in the Senior Section. Second prizes in the Garden Competition were sponsored by the Terrace Bay Credit Union and Nancy Gerlach was the Junior winner with George Hermes the Senior winner. Third prizes were sponsored by the Horticul- tural Society and were won by Terry Lynn Daley 'in the juniors and Paul Gerlach in the senior. At the show George Hermes won the Horticul- tural Society shield for capturing the highest aggregate points in the show. The Loyal Order of Moose; Terrace Bay Lodge No. I752, award for highest points accumulated by a girl went to Sabina Buhrmann, and by a boy - to George Hermes. The Imperial Bank of Commerce award for the Outstanding Exhibit went to George Hermes for his vegetable display. Other winners in the Junior Gardeners were: Sylvia Landry, Daryl Broughton, Donna DePaolo, Dean Roberts, Nancy Gerlach, Eleanor DePaolo, Wendy Broughton, David McBride, Greg Kostiuk, Ow- wald Buhrmann, Denis Landry, Paul Gerlach, Joan Hiebert, Andy Kos- tiuk, and Lori McBride. : In the adult section I2 exhib- itors displayed approximately 300 entries. : Hyacinthe Landry was the Champ- ion exhibitor and took home the Township of Terrace Bay trophy. Alice Farrow was runner-up. Section winners were: Irene Steen for Houseplants; Hyacinthe Landry for Annuals; Alice Farrow for Biennials; Alice Farrow for Perennials; Victor Welsh for Dah- lias and Gladiolus; H. Landry for Fruit, and Hyacinthe Landry for Vegetables. The door prize, donated by Jim Mikus - Shell Agent, was won by Helen Brooks, and the African Violet raffle was won by Mr. Bernie Muhle of Cleveland, Ohio. Another group of people who contributed greatly to the success of the show are the donors of prizes, all they win is our thanks and we hope that they will also win your pa- tronage. We again will have a display of articles made by retarded children's association for sale to the public and space available for donated articles to be sold, proceeds to help this worth while cause.
