PAGE 18 TERRACE BAY NEWS AUGUST 2I, I974 ARMSTRONG: The funeral of the late James Gary (Jim) Armstrong, of Schreiber, whose death occurred suddenly in Marathon, on August IIth, was con- ducted in St. John's Anglican Church in Schrei -ber by Rev. A.L. Chabot of Marathon. Scott Sakaluk, of Massey, a nephew of the deceased, was the organist and Donna Sakaluk a sister, sang a solo = "The 0ld Rugged Cross" The guard of honour was formed of brothers- in-laws of Mr. Armstrong - Maurice Lavoie, Louis Quesnelle, Bob Landrie, John Sakaluk, Edward Goegan, and Nunzio Goegan. Active bearers were Herbert Gellert, Haroldjf Gellert, William Paradis, Yvon Beauparlant, Bud Aylward and George Lengyel. Interment was in Schreiber cemetery. Prior to the church service the Masonic Lodge, #662, held its burial service in the Joe King Funeral Home. Mr. Armstrong's immediate survivors are his wife, Irma, two daughters, Debra (Mrs. Michael McNab) of Upsala and Nancy at home, two sons, Terry and Peter, also at home; one brother, Tom of Lakeland, Florida and sisters Mrs. Shirley Goegan, Mrs. Lois Johnston, Norma (Mrs Russell Trowell), all of Toronto; Bonnie (Mrs. Louis Quesnelle) of Penetang, Donna (Mrs. John Sakaluk) of Massey, Cathy (Mrs. Robert Landrie of Espanola and Mrs. Pat Lavoie of Marathon. Mr. Armstrong, who was 43 years old, was born in Trout Creek in the North Bay area, coming to Schreiber eight years ago. He was employed with C.P. Rail as a train despatcher. He became well known both in Schreiber and the district as an officer in the Minor Hockey Association, and an enthusiastic supporter of local teams. Attending the service, from out of town were: Mrs. Lois Johnston, Mrs. Shirley Goegan, Mr. and Mrs. John Constable, of Toronto; Mr. and Mrs. John Sakaluk, son Scott and daughter Donna, of Massey; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Landrie, Espanola; Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Lavoie, Marath- on; Edward Goegan, Sudbury; N. Goegan, Scar- boro - all relations; Mr. and Mrs. Casey Mc- Bride, White River; George Welsh, Chapleau; Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Lefebvre, Marcel Lefebvre Marathon; Henry McChristie, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Burridge, of Thunder Bay; Mrs. Joan Weaver, Mrs. Betty Randa, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Pelto, Clarence Buck, Ken Weppler, Albert Farrow and Harry Gusul, Terrace Bay. SCHREIBER COUNCIL QUOTES Schreiber Municipal Council, at their Aug- ust I3th meeting, were notified the surveying firm of Phillips, Milton and Wilson expect to begin their survey of Mining Location R-271 the week of August I9th. Clerk, Aurel Gauthier was instructed to ob- tain quotations covering supply of I5 and IS inch concrete storm sewer pipe for Galena St. in response to report made by councillors J.S. Caccamo and R.G. Krause. Councillor N.A. McCuaig reported on prog- ress made on the plan to enlarge the arena. The Ministry of Transportation and Commun- ications outlined their policy on sumps - at present they are not eligible for grants, but Councillor Krause will contact the authority again stressing the success with sump instal- lations in Schreiber, and requesting an inter=- view to discuss the matter. Ministry of Housing sent information on grant programs available to municipalites to encourage their participation in the Province- 's housing plans; for a municipality of Sch- reiber size technical assistance is available to draw up policy statements of their council- 's general housing aims = for, the next two or three years, for low, moderate income families and individuals. Notice was recei- ved that a Field Office of the Ministry has been placed in Thunder B to assist municip- alities with official plans and zoning by-laws It was agreed to support a resolution by the Ontario Humane Society to the Government of Ontario, requesting that funds be available to maintain a mobile vetinary clinic perman- ently in Northern Ontario. M.J. Vibert, secretary-treasurer,- wrote ex- plaining the Board of Pinewood Court's Home for the Aged purpose in sending seven delegat- es to a convention in Toronto: in order to learn how to meet the needs of Senior Citizens with ready access to information- required.
