WILDERNESS ADVENTURE : Group 2 of Wilderness Adventure set off Monday, August I9th to canoe down the Steel River. This is very rough expedition taking six days. The starting point is Jackfish and will finish at Santoy Lake doing a complete circle. Fourteen people have gone on the long trip. Last week they had a tour of the Terrace Bay mill which proved to be very interesting and the Pyramid Mines, old gold mines. OUR TRIP TO OUIMET CANYON & THE SLEEPING GIANT: This story is about the trip to Ouimet Can- yon and to the Sleeping Giant. The recreation committee of Schreiber chartered a bus, and took the kids who were in Wilderness Adventure and Sports '74. We started out on the 7th of August and went to Ouimet Canyon. The group of kids and instructors walked to the end of the area where you could see where the canyon walls had separated. In many thou- sands of years this area will be caved in. We left Ouimet Canyon and headed for the Sleeping Giant. The bus took us to a lake called Pounds- ford. We all went for a swim. After our swim we left and went to the Thunder Bay scen- ic lookout. The bus left and we stayed and waited for one of the instructors who was com- ing from Thunder Bay. When he arrived he made trips back and forth to take packsacks and kids back to Poundsford. We camped at Poundsford for the length of time we were on the trip. On the 8th of August a man from the Minis- try of Natural Resources took us to the Trail of the Sleeping Giant. We headed up towards the feet of the Sleeping Giant. We climed to the top of his feet and then down the other side. At the bottom we stopped and had lunch. After lunch we headed for the instructors car which was parked where we had departed from that morning, at 7 p.m. On the 9th of August six people went to the head of the Sleeping Giant. When they got there you could see Thunder Bay and Michigan from an old fire tower. Also you could see different parts of the Sleeping Giant. The only thing was if we had more time than we did, we would have thought it would be more interesting. If you ever get a chance to go to Ouimet Canyon and to the Sleeping Giant, go it's a beautiful place.
