_AUGUST 14, 1974 TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE I5 SENIOR CITIZENS HOUSING SURVEY The Ontario Housing Corporation will conduct a survey to determine the need and demand "for senior citizen housing in Schreiber. A research analyst from OHC, the Ontario Government's housing agency, will estimate the number of senior citizens living in Schreiber, whose housing is inadequate or beyond their financial capabilities. The demand in the area for housing on a rent-geared-to-income basis will be determined from information gathered through advertising, direct mail questionnaires and interviews. The study, which begins this month was re- quested by the Council of the Township of Schreiber. It will include an assessment of economic trends, growth factors and current and future housing needs in the municipality. Senior citizens in Schreiber will receive letters outlining the Government's housing program and asking them if they wish to partic- ipate. Some interested persons may not be reached by direct mail. OHC urges them to obtain a questionnaire from the municipal offices. If the survey shows a need for senior citi- zens' housing, it will likely be an apartment building, although consideration is given to one-storey units which do not require stair- ways. All apartments have a living room, bed- room, bathroom and kitchen and are equipped with stove and refrigerator. Rent is geared to income and the minimum is $37 a month, in- cluding services. After considering the survey report, Coun- cil can initiate the program it outlines by adopting a resolution requesting OHC to go a- head. Capital costs are shared by the Provin- cial and Federal Governments. Housing on a rent-geared-to-income basis is part of OHC's Home Ownership Made Easy (H.O.M. E.) Program. Those receiving questionnai.es are asked to return them as soon as possible to assist the survey. y - Photo next column of completed apartments. - Turn to page 20 for further advertisement.
