PAGE I4 TERRACE BAY NEWS AUGUST 14, 1974 FALL FAIR SEPTEMBER 5-7 The great extravaganza, the annual Fall Fair of St. Andrew's United Church, is planned for September 5,6,7 this year, their 6th annual event. The timetable of events is as follows: Thursday, September 5th - 7 P.M. to IO P.M. display of all articles for the Grand Auction, the Penny Auction, house plants and other arti- cles, with lunch and coffee available; Friday, September 6th - 7 P.M. to I0:30 P.M. the Giant Auction, with coffee, tarts and dough -nuts. Saturday, September 7th - I:30 to 9:30 P.M. Counter sales, with a smorgasbord from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and the Penny Auction from 7:30 to 9130 p.m. In appreciation of the devoted work done by the local Association for the Mentally Retard- ed, the Fair has for several years, given them space for an exhibit, which includes articles made by the Retarded, and this year, a poster display and White Elephant Counter, for which donations will be most gratefully accepted. This year, the articles donated for the auction is mind-boggling in both variety and amount, ranging from all types of clothing, for men, women and children, and in household wares from books, boots, furniture, drapes, radios, T.V.'s, carpets, dishes and electric appliances LEGION FIELD DAY The tone for the Legion Field Day was set by the mock indignation of the crowd when the jud- ges refused to let 'Vicky' Winters, run in the Women's Open race (even though she was wearing track suit) declaring too many of her great grandchildren had already won prize money! Jack Handel was the parade marshall and this year an increased number of children were cos- tumed. The judges were three strangers, attra- cted by the crowd, and so ideal for such decis- ions - Robert Payne, of Branch 533, London, Ont John Urban of Kingman, Arizona and Craig Muir, of Vancouver. They awarded prizes as follows: Pre-school age - J.J. Davis, in perfect base- ball uniform; Jason Luke, at ten months riding his trycycle, with Donna Mayry, Dominic Pasqua- lino and Cathy Birch also in the money. Other prize winners were Joanne Winters as a Tin Woodman, Rosalyn Zaporzan, Steven Lamour- eau as an addressed envelope, Dirk Wilbenson as a Hula dancer, Catherine Potvin as a prince- ss, and Anita Speziale, as a Lady-in-waiting; A family group attracted much attention - Chris Saarinen with his sisters Jennifer and Jodie-Chris as a Savage complete with tattoo- ing, chicken bones matted in his hair, nose ring and other appurtenances, and the girls as lovely Hawaiians with bikinis, hats and par -asols made of flowers. Jim Crook, president of the Legion, managed the races assisted by Barry Harper, Paddy O'~- Brien, and Jack Handel. Winners being: Andrea Stortini, Lee Ann Campbell, Jodie Saarinen, Lesley Moore, Mich- ele Webb, Carrie Campbell, Robert Favuzzi, Reno Venziano, Brad Godin, Sandra Nesbitt, Cathy Campbell, Lori O'Connor, Stan Potvin, Michael Courneyer, Steven Spikula, Mary Stor- tini, Gail Beauparlant, Brenda Lamoureau, Ann Ferland, Ron Speziale, Brian Hiller, Mario Veneziano, Virginia Stortini, 'Joanne Winters, Leslie Comeau, Lawrence McParland, Billy Camp- bell. : The children in the parade were given their usual favors and treats and throughout the day vast quantities of cabbage rolls, hamburgers and other food were consumed. During the evening the crowd thoroughly en- joyed dancing and singing to The Partie Sound, manager Wilf Roch, who also offered several special dance numbers. Jack Winters won the big draw prize, the ticket drawn by Mrs. Mark Doig of Trenton. Among those working for the occasion were Jim and Jean Crook, Jack and Bobbie Winters, Georgina Davis, Beth Macadam, Earline Johnson, Barry and Brenda Harper, Kay Fraser, Ruth Hiller, Chris Dunham, Avila Richardson, Len Hiller, Wilf and Barbara McLaughlin, Gail Wel- bourne and Charlotte Miller. Mr. and Mrs. Alex Power have gon to Killal- oe to attend the funeral of Harold Ryan (Mrs. Power's brother-in-law). Mr. and Mrs. Ted Wainikka with Brad, Tracy and Leslie of Winnipeg and Mr. and Mrs. Denis Boucher and Corinne of Kamloops, B.C. have been visiting Mr. and Mrs. Bill Gerow. Amongst the presence of family, relatives and friends, celebrations for the 25th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Michael McGrath began on August 8th with a Mass at Holy Angels Church where their wedding vows were pronoun- ced 25 years ago. A family dinner was held at the Mayfair Hotel followed by an evening party at the Mc- Grath home. From out of town for the occass- ion were Mike's brother Ambrose with his sons Kerry, Stephen and Joseph of Hamilton and Rit- a's sister Mrs. Ethel Devon of Eganville.
