PAGE I6 TERRACE BAY NEWS JULY IO, I974 Lacrosse Clinic = continued Thursday's opening session will deal with fil- ms and introduction of the game with an. infor- mal session at the arena afterwards. Mr. Dick Henderson will be conducting this clinic. There is no charge and anyone, child or adult, interested in promoting this sport in the community is encouraged to attend. CANADA DAY WEEKEND EVENTS WELL ATTENDED The Kinsmen Club of Terrace Bay took on the task of the Canada Day, July Ist weekend this year and subsequently hope to make this an annual project. The weekend started Friday Night, June 28th with a challenge ballgame. We thank Mr. Ron Lang for the following write-up: The fastball championship of Terrace Bay now rests in the hands of the Terrace Bay Kins- men, as predicted the water babies played the way we expected them to when put under heavy pressure. This was a fun ball game, and without the able assistance of Dick Moher who soaked the umpire (man in blue, very unpredictable, )and the Kinsmen catcher, the volunteer Fire Depar- tment would have met with utter disaster, As it was the fire boys put up a gallant struggle and if not for the fire ball pitching of slider Bob Roberts who had at least twelve fielders to backhim up, the score =~ I4-7 surely would have been much higher. Its understood that in the near future the volunteer fire department is going to challen- ge the Kinsmen to a game of water ball, this should prove very interesting, at least they won't be able to come up with any excuses such as not having any practice. The Kinsmen and Fire Department would like "to thank all those who came to the game and we are thinking about making this an annual chall- enge, so if any organizations in Terrace Bay wish to-challenge us for this nostalgic trophy, stand up and be heard. It should also be mentioned at this time, the Kinsmen Club went into this fastball game as the underdogs with additional pressure put on by the water babies when they handicapped our pitchers by making them wear, not one fire coat, but two. This proved to be no advantage to the fire boys as'twinkle toes' G. Dupas and 'knuckles' D. Mannisto totally disarmed the fire batters. ? Once again many thanks to all those who participated and to the public who came to ob- serve the local talent??? The photo below might give you some idea of the crowd that attended the ball game. Dick Moher was behind the fence in this scene giving the umpire a little water assistance. We had hoped to get more pictures of the ball game - but' when the photographer almost got hit with the ball - she gave up! i A Canada Day Ecumenical Church Service was held in the Arena of the Recreation Centre at II:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 30th. Choirs from St. Martin Separate School and the Lake Super- ior Public School, under the direction of Mrs. Margaret McKague, were accompanied by David Mercier on the guitar. Michael Anderson, principal of St. Martin was the Leader and Rev. Peter McKague gave the main address. M. Lundberg read the Scripture. The combined choirs added a great deal to the success of the service. Photo below of David Mercier by M. Lundberg continued page I7 ssv.s.ne
