There is presently a serious fire situation existing in the Northwestern region of Ontario. Not since I96I, when there was a total of I,305 fires which burned a total of I,I84,728 acres in Ontario has there been a situation of such magnitude currently in the Northwestern Region. Alone in I974 there has been a total of 150,075 acres burned to date. Compare this figure then with that of 1973 when a total of 8,9I3 acres were burned in I,III fires in all of Ontario. Of these fires the Northwestern Region accounted for 248 which burned 1,910 acres. This comparison clearly illustrates the seriousness of the existing fire situation.
