PAGE I6 TERRACE BAY NEWS JUNE 26, I974 LIBRARY BOARD SELECTS STUDENT Maria Maggio is the student selected to work eight weeks in the Schreiber Public Lib- rary, a Youth Library Project. Word was received at the Board's June IOth meeting that the Northwestern Regional Library has paid for the installation of the telephone a move long-considered by the Board. Mrs. Esther Walker volunteered to accompany Mrs. Kirkpatrick, the Librarian when she goes to Thunder Bay to select books. The library is making progress in it's much 'needed expansion and materials have been pur- chased and work begun to complete the Dewey Decimal system in readiness. After a discussion on the use of facilities for children 5-10 years, the Board decided to place the Saturday morning story hour, filming and showing creative drama on the winter sch- edule in anticipation of the increased space. The paying of accounts totalling $592.07 was endorsed. Tenders were called for insurance on the library contents and it was decided to purch- ase a used typewriter as soon as possible. BROOKS-STOKES VOWS EXCHANGED The altar in Holy Angels Roman Catholic Church in Schreiber was banked with apricot gladiolii and baby's breath for the marriage of Catherine Ann Stokes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Stokes, of Schreiber, and John Jos- eph Brooks, of Toronto, son of Mr. and Mrs. David Brooks of Kenora, on June Ist. Father F.J. Meyer officiated. . The bride chose a floor length gown in white peau-de-soie, on princess lines, the ban -ded neckline, bodice of the gown and long detachable train ornamented with lace and seed pearl embroidery. He waist length veil was caught to a centre of lace seed pearls and she carried a white lace parasol trimmed with organza 'apricot roses, yellow shasta daisies and baby's breath, her only ornament a ster- ling silver bracelet, the gift of the groom. Miss Sheila McParland, the maid of honour, the bride's only attendant, chose a sleeveless apricot polyester gown on princess lines, her headpiece a wreath of apricot organza roses, and her flowers a parasol of organza apricot roses, yellow sweetheart roses and baby's bre- ath. The best man was David Harris, and the ush- ers Robert and Michael Brooks, brothers of the groom. The wedding dinner was given in the town hall when the toast to the bride was proposed by Bill Gerow, an old family friend. During the evening a reception was held in the home of the bride's parents when Mrs. Stokes recei- ved in a long floral gown in shades of pink, mauve and white, with matching coat, her cor- sage of Carnations spiced with baby's breath. The groom's mother, who assisted in receiv- ing, chose a green and white floral gown with matching bolero topped with white fox stole, her corsage also of carnations. The bride and groom will reside in Toronto. Among the many relatives and friends atten- ding the wedding from district points were Mr. and Mrs. David Brooks, with Beth, Michael, Robert, Kathleen and Neil Brooks and David Harris, of Kenora; Mr. and Mrs. Gerry O'Sulli- van and daughter Marianne, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Huntley with David, James and Elizabeth Hunt- ley, Mrs. Hugh Connor, Mr. L. Rock and daught- er Louise, all of Toronto; Miss Sheila McPar- land and Miss Doris McParland of Calgary; Mrs. Gerald Johnston, Lakewood, California; Mrs. P. Brown, Sister Marie Stokes, Mr. D'Arcy Moorey, Mr. E.C. Prinselaar, Thunder Bay; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Persson, with Joan and Gordon Per- sson, Mr. Chris Stewart, Miss Jackie Turner, Miss Judy Graham, Miss Charlene Wallin of Terrace Bay; Mr. and Mrs. C. Wilde, Rossport. Prior to her wedding, the bride was enter- tained at a miscellaneous shower in the home of Mrs. Peter Huntley in Toronto, a community shower-tea in Schreiber and a kitchen shower, also in Schreiber, with the Misses Janice and Joyce Cluett and Mrs. Rosemary Alfarano as hostesses, the party held in the latter's home SCHREIBER TOWN TOPICS Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Gordon were honoured at a farewell party given in the Schreiber town hall when friends gathered to wish them well in their new home in Kittimat, B.C. Mr. Gor- don has been a vice-principal in the Lake Su- perior Public School, Terrace Bay Campus, and will hold a similar position in Kittimat. Mr. Gordon is a native of Schreiber and his wife, the former Joyce Graham, considered one, since she grew up here. Mrs. Betty Klassen presented the friends' farewell gift of a set of local scenes painted by Lila Morrow. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Stokes presented a wooden fruit bowl, handcrafted by Eva Hill of Mara- thon. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Stefurak were given a sur -prise house-warming in their new home on Win- nipeg St. by a group of twenty friends.
