In approximately five hou- rs a Bell G-4 helicopter equipped with a Brohm seeding unit, aerially seeded jack pine on 400 acres of scarified cutover in the Macutagon 3 River block, north east of Manitouwadge. This required approximately eleven million Jag Pine seeds. The tree seed used in projects such as this, is obtained from people employed as cone pick= ers, who collect the seed-bearing cones found - in fresh logging slash. At the present time, and throughout the summer, crews of students go out on weekends to pick cones in pre-selec- ted areas. Their efforts will replenish seed stocks used for aerial seeding and the produc- tion of nursery stock. 7 L.J.
