APRIL 3, I974 TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE I7 BROWNIE NEWS During the months of ¥ebruary and March the Brownies of the Ist Terrace Bay Pack have been very busy. February 22nd was Lord and Lady Baden Pow- ells birthdays. He being founder of Scouting and Guiding and she being the World Chief Guide. All organizations celebrate this day called 'Thinking Day' in their own way, and Pack I had a wonderful imaginary trip around to different countries. First te the hot sunny climate of the Phillipines - with Brown Owl Saranpaa, they visited the pineapp- le groves and saw cocoanut palms, tasted the- se delights and studied the Brownie uniform, flag and wished for some warm sunshine, to take home. , The next stop was Switzerland, the land of skiing, and wonderful cheeses. Tawny Owl Robitaille tempted the Brownies with cheese and crackers as they heard the different languages that are spoken there, and then an imaginary trip on Switzerlands Railways over to Germany with Tawny Owl Jones. Joan Costall in the National Dress (cour- tesy of Mrs. Inga Deutscher) welcomed every- one, and lots of fun was had in saying a few words in German. Homes and Chalets were lovely designed by the brownies and a collec- tion of coins and German books were displayed The last stop on the world trip just had to be in the sunshine again, this time to South Africa with Tawny Owl Wallwin. Here we saw the straw huts and the South African Brownies in their lovely cool unifor- ms, travelling the roads through the grape vines was interesting because each bunch of grapes was cleverly designed with pennies collected for the 'Thinking Day' fund. This finished off the trip on a good friendly note and kept everyone in high spir- its for the lunch around the Toadstool, where foods of different countries were eaten and just a few brownies hesitated to try the Liverworse and Pumpernickel from Germany. Cup cakes and koolaid completed the Menu. Singing in the candle light of 'Lady Baden Powell's' Birthday cake was a lovely closing to a delightful evening. March was pretty active. The Brownies collected rags for the McCausland Hospital Auxiliary, and they had a great response from their parents. Bags and bags were sorted at meetings and Terrace Bay Rangers spent a whole day at the home of Captain Jones and cut squares and packed them. Brown Owl Sar- anpaa appreciated the support the parents gave to this worthwhile project. Winter time is skating time in Terrace Bay and the Brownies had an interesting evening recently working on their skaters badge. Mrs. Addie Beaulieau kindly volunteered to do the testing and the Recreation Department gave the arena for the occasion and ten Brownies ,successfully passed their badge requirements. C.W.L.
