SNOWMOBILE LIABILITY INSURANCE The following is a letter sent to Mr. Jack Stokes, MPP, Thunder Bay: "Mr. Jack Stokes, M.L.A. Winnipeg Street Schreiber, Ontario RE: SNOW MACHINE LIARILITY INSURANCE "Dear Jack: "I am writing to you in regards to the cap- tionally noted subject as I am not sure which Minister within the Government should handle this complaint. "Prior to joining the O.P.P. my home was in Parry Sound and upon purchasing my first car I took out .insurance with a local agent which I have maintained for the past fourteen years. When I settled in Schreiber I took out house and contents insurance with Bruce SIMONS, and since my transfer to Manitouwadge I have had this policy transferred and intend to continue dealing with Bruce. "While in Schreiber I never used my Snow machines (3 in number) on the streets, there- fore, I never required insurance on same. Where my residence is situated in Manitouwadge if I travel % mile on a back road it opens up several hundred miles of private Paper Company roads for ideal ski-dooing. "To travel this % mile I require insurance so I attended at the local insurance agent - Baxter Insurance Agency Ltd. to insure my machines. After I was questioned as to where I had my car and house insured I was advised to take my business to one of these agents as Baxter just didn't want "SCRAPPY" policies, unless they could obtain one of the other pol- icies. Other than making me personally angry, this doesn't really effect me as I know I can take my business elsewhere. The thing that does concern me is the fact that as a Policeman I have to enforce the Motorized Snow Vai ance mandatory fc: any vehicle operated on a highway. In Manitouwadge there are numercus single miners whose only possession in this world is their snow machine and therefore not having a bigger policy to offer Baxter, they would be refused coverage. How can I as a Policeman prosecute these individuals under these circumstances? "As long as the Government sees fit to allow the snow machines on the highway I feel insurance companies should be obligated to insure these vehicles. "I don't expect any action to be taken on this matter as-I know you are kept busy with more serious complaints, but I just wanted to draw this matter to your attention. Also for your information, find attached Baxter's ad which states "FOR ALL YOUR INSURANCE NEEDS". Sincerely, J.C. Bosley." The following letter was written to Mr. G.E. Grundy, Ministry of Consumer & Commerc- ial Relations by Jack Stokes. » "Mr. G.E.
