NOVEMBER I4, I973 TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE 7 TERRACE BAY POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORT A total of thirty-one occurrences were in- vestigated during the past week by the Terrace Bay Police Department. Fraudulant use of a credit card was report- ed with investigation resulting in .a Toronto man being charged with theft and fraud. Three break and enters occurred at the high school which resulted in a juvenile being re- ported for two offences and the third still under investigation. : A break, enter and theft at the Department of Highways building resulted in one adult and two juveniles being charged. A fire at the home of a local resident occurred during the week. The fire was extin- guished with minor damage. Six motor vehicles were safety checked and four warnings issued. An accident on highway I7 between a motor vehicle and a pedestrian resulted in the pedes- trian being hospitalized with minor injuries. It has been reported that children are crossing the highway at places other than those protected by the crossing guards. Parents are requested to instruct their child- ren to cross only at the cross walks. With Winter once again upon us we notice a number of motorized snow machines being tuned up in preparation of a long season. For the information of the public the following is the law regarding the operation of snow machines. I) All machines must be licenced no matter where they are being operated. 2) If being operated on the highway, the driv- er must be licenced and the machine insured. 3) No person under I6 years of age is allowed to operate a motorized snow vehicle on a high- way. 4) The highway is defined as any placed design- ed, constructed or used by the general public for passage of motor vehicles (includes the C.P.R. Road). 5) Within the township limited, persons under I6 years of age who wish to take their machin- es out of the town will be permitted to leave the motor running and push the machine across the road after ensuring that it is safe to do so. 6) The provisions of the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario regarding traffic signs apply to motorized snow vehicles. 7) No person shall operate a motorized snow vehicle within the township of Terrace Bay be- tween the hours of midnight and 7 a.m. ated in the following places: a) hospital grounds b) grounds of the home for the aged c) church grounds during services d) school grounds during school hours except: that students may drive to school and park their machine until classes are fin- ished. e) the area between the end of the Recreation Centre building and Highway I7. The province of Ontario is presently con- sidering the enacting of a provincial statute to prohibit the use of motorized snow vehicles anyware within a built up area within the province. If enough complaints are received there is little doubt this law will be passed. Your Police Department requests the co- operation of citizens in reporting illegal use of snow machines within the township.
