Harness, Schreiber received her diploma in Library Science, graduating with first class stand -ing from Lakehead Un- iversity. Helen has accepted a position with the Library of Parliament in Ottawa. ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCEMENT Mr. and Mrs. Ken MacLeod of Terrace Bay aref pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter Karen Elizabeth to Mr. William Leary son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Leary of Gormlie Ontario. The wedding will take place in the fall. SHOWER HONOURS BRIDE-ELECT Miss June Small was honoured by her friends at a bridal shower-tea arranged in St. Andrew- 's United Church Hall on June I5th, when her mother, Mrs. Lloyd Small, and Mrs. Lance Stew- art assisted her in receiving. Mesdames Gino Caccamo, Charles Holmes, Will- iam Paradis and Ken Davis poured tea. The table servitors were Mesdames Gary Gusul, Jim Mikus, Paul Gauthier and the Misses Nancie Spillane, Brenda Lalonde, Judy Davis and Mary Jo Ryan with Mrs. Gordon Nesbitt as table hos- tess. Mesdames Len Hiller, Ivan Johnson, Larry Fraser and Hobden Spikula replenished. The guest register was attended by Colleen Ryan, and the gifts opened by Miss Melanie Ross and Miss Edie Clemens. HOME AND SCHOOL MEETING Margaret Averill, Education Consoltant of Marathon, was the guest speaker at the June 7th meeting of the Schreiber Home and School Association (Public School). Mrs. Averill's subject was Teaching Children to Read, stress- ing the importance of talking to children at an early age to establish communications. After this address teachers spoke describ- ing and demonstrating various methods they use. The teachers were Mrs. C. Wilde, Miss Edith Clemens, Mrs. Glorie Miller and Mr. D. Roberts son. Mrs. Shirley Brown reported on plans made for the tea on June 27th from 3-6 to honour Miss Gwen Hadley retiring after teaching many years in the public school. Mrs. Frank McKenna reported on plans made for the graduation ceremonies on June 26, starting with a smorgasbord dinner, the gradu- ation program and a dance to which grade 7 will be invited. ART SHOW Over two hundred paintings were displayed by the local art club at their annual show, held Saturday and Sunday in the public school. The crowd of 450 included visitors from Th- under Bay, Red Rock, Nipigon and Terrace Bay with one from Toronto. With the exception of four oils, done by Helen Strickland, the instr- uctor from Confederation College, the paintings were all from the local members.
