PAGE I2 TERRACE BAY NEWS JUNE I3,I973 SWIM POOL VOLUNTEERS: Swim pool staff requires willing volunteers for summer swim programme. Anyone I2 years of age and over interested in helping us this sum -mer, please leave your name and age at the Recreation Office before the I2th of June I973 We will be running a volunteer training clinic Friday, June 22nd and all those interested will be contacted as to the schedule before that Friday. MINOR BALL PROGRAMME : All registration forms were circulated through the schools last week. If you have not received one, simply contact the Recrea- tion Office. The Recreation Department will be operat- ing a programme in the following leagues: Boys: International League ( 7 - 9 yrs. of age) American League (I0 -I2 yrs. of age) National League (I3 -I4 yrs. of age) Girls: Girls League (I2 -I6 yrs. of age) Boys over the age of I4 will be able to compete in a hardball programme which operates at the field behind the Texaco. Contact Curt Desrosiers if you are interested in the hard- ball league. Pegistration deadline for the minor ball "programme is Wednesday, June 20th. VOLUNTEERS : Volunteers are urgently required to assist in the operation of the various leagues. Thus far, the following three people have indicat- ed they would be willing to help: Mr. R. Dakin Dr. B. McDonald and Mr. David Ramsay. We need more help! Call the Recreation Office at 3542. The programme will operate from June 25th to approximately July 27th. The month of August will be set aside for represen -tative games. PLAYGROUND PROGRAM - 73: The Terrace Bay Recreation Department will be offering an 8 week summer programme for children who are presently enrolled in Kinder- garten to approximately I4 years of age. The programme is designed and planned to give the participants as wide a range as possible in such activities as music, drama, storytelling, arts, crafts, active games, quiet games, natures lore, etc. The programme is operated by a staff of four local girls who are trained for this programme . More details will be outlined in the News prior to the start of the programme con Tuesday July 2nd. ART TREK: The Terrace Bay Recreation Office was offic=- ially notified last week that Art Trek will be available to our community from July I2th to the I4th. Press releases will appear in the paper and anyone I3 years of age and up will be able to take part in the programme. We are hoping a special session for Adults will be planned if there is sufficient interest. More details to be announced. 1 "CANADA DAY" - YOUTH DANCE: This years Canada Day Youth Dance will be held on Saturday evening June 30th in the Terrace Bay memorial arena. The services of "Black Lightning" have been secured for that evening. Admission prices will be posted around the Community Centre this week. TRACK & FIELD, LACROSSE TO BE HIGHLIGHTED: Due to the Youth-in-Action project secured by our department this year, a programme in track and field and lacrosse will be organized over the summer months. ; Mr. Pat Smith, first year recreation leader-= ship student at Confederation College has been hired as the "Summer Programme Developer" for the Youth-in-Action project. Pat will commence his duties on June 25th and work out of the Recreation Office. COMING EVENTS: June I3th to I7th - E. & J. Enterprises midway sponsored by Canadian Legion. 3 June 20th, Wednesday - Registration deadline for swimming and minor ball programmes. June 29th, 30th, July Ist - Canada Day program details of program to be announced later. 4 June 30th - Canada Day Youth Dance - Memorial Arena - 9:00 p.m. to midnight. July 2nd - Monday - Summer playground program 3 starts. ; July I2, I3, I4th - Art Trek - further details to be announced.
