Howe admitted last Tuesday, after Mark and Marty had signed with the Aeros, that their contract "had a few zeros in it." But he wouldn't commit himself to signing, saying he would return to Detroit to discuss the matter with Red Wings owner Bruce Norris first That's the kind of a guy Gordie is, and has always been. He realizes that the Detroit organization, and the NHL, have provided him a good livelihood and he's not about to make this big step before at least talking the matter over with the folks who have provided him with bread and butter for over 25 years. Chances are, by the time you read this col- umn, Poppa Howe will have signed with the Aeros. Whether he does or not, look for an- other Gordie Howe column in this corner next week. I hope to be talking to him after he's made up his mind, so watch for it! Practically all the interior work in the building has been done by voluntary help and the finished product is a credit to those members and Ladies Auxiliary members who worked so hard on this project.
