JUNE 6, I973 TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE 5 Sports Slants --- cont'd: ...... he had beaten the best female player in the world. But the ladies countered by saying, "Sure, Bobby, you can enter, but you'll have to wear a skirt, like the rest of us." Riggs has- n't given his answer, but no doubt he'll accept just for the publicity =- and the money. His victory over Mrs. Court now only put him back in the tennis limelight, but also in the base- ball spotlight. He's scheduled to be the guest announcer in one of the NBC Monday Night Base- ball Game of the Week, soon. The first two game guests were former baseball greats Dizzie Dean and Joe DiMaggio. Now why would they want Riggs on there? They tell me that another future guest on that Monday night game will be Dinah Shore. And why would they want her on there???? Buffalo Sabres general manager Punch Imlach picked three Frenchmen during the NHL draft a few weeks ago - Jean Landry, a defenceman, and Andre Deschamps and Yvon Dupuis, both forwards, all from Quebec Remparts. Asked why he picked them, Punch answered, "I played or coached in Quebec City for II years ... I know what French -men can do." At the rate Imlach is going, he- '11 soon have to rename his Sabres to Buffalo Canadiens. He had seven Frenchmen on the' team last year, including the French Connection line second best in the league, comprised of Lady Byng Trophy winner Gilbert Perreault, Richard Martin and Rene Robert. The others were Mike Robitaille, Norm Gratton, Larry Carriere and Paul Terbenche ..... Was glad to see Philadelphia Flyers' Bobby Clarke win the Hart Memorial Trophy, as the NHL's most valuable player during the regular season. Funny thing, though, although one of the NHL's finest gentlemen, Clarke didn't get a single vote in the Lady Byng nominations. PROCESSED ORGANIC WASTE DISPOSAL REGULATIONS Ontario recently introduced new regulations covering the disposal of processed organic wastes, Environment Minister James Auld report -ed. This regulation deals with the application of these sludges on land, specifying the am- ounts that can be applied to various types of soil, during which months of the year, and in what amounts based on a scale of equivalent pounds of nitrogen per year per acre. Contractors who deal in these sludges will have to obtain a Certificate of Approval thr- ough the Ministry's Waste Management Branch to operate a hauling system. Approval certif- icates will also have to be obtained for the various disposal sites. Complete records of the types and volumes of these processed or- ganic wastes applied at each site will have to be kept and these records communicated to the Ministry's Waste Management Branch every month "Expanded programs of nutrient removal in pollution control plants will increase the vol -umes of sludge that will have to be disposed of." "This future increase in volume is one reason for the establishment of this program," Mr. Auld said. Tenders will be received up to 4:00 P.M.
