Preliminary hearing -s have been held with park officials of Metropolitan Toronto, the City of Toronto and the Boroughs of Scarbor- ough, North York, Etobicoke, York and East York. "Municipalities, government agencies and many other organizations including commercial users will now have the opportunity of developing Hydro rights- of-way for public parks and recreation- al purposes, thereby expanding their recreational areas at relatively little cost and no risk of losing their in- vestment." SCHREIBER LEGION AUXILIARY The two bursaries presented at the Lake Superior high school commencement were thoroughly discussed at the May first meeting of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch I09, and the following decision made: (I) a scholarship will be presented to the grade I3 student making the most improvement, who is a resident of Schreiber or Rossport and wishing to continue his or her education. (2) a scholarship of $100.00 will be present- ed to the most improved student in Grade I2, intending to further his edu- cation and whose parents are a member of either the Royal Canadian Legion Branch I09 or its auxiliary. Mrs. Pat Moore, chairman, reported on the arrangements to conduct the town canvass for the Salvation Army. It was decided to send no delegate to the convention in Kenora, the cost being prohibitive. Mrs. Chris Morris gave a detailed and excellent report of the district convention she and Mrs. Ethel Smith had attended in the Ortona Legion, Thunder Bay. Mrs. Beth Macadam asked for volun- teers to provide a program for the. birthday party on May 26th. After re- porting on plans for the May IIth pen- ny auction, she and her committee were given a set amount to provide addition -al prizes if necessary. Mrs. Georgina Davis reported on meeting with the town council concern- ing the proposed Health Centre. Mrs. Davis also reported on the shuffle board tournament now in progress and the social evening planned when it is completed. Mrs. Ethel Nesbitt stated the month -ly draw had been won by Mrs. Lillian Christie and that she would hold no further ones until September. Beautiful floral table decorations made by Marge Davis, were submitted by her, with modest statement of cost and the suggestion they be used for the birthday dinner of the auxiliary. They were accepted and an acknowledge- ment of the labour involved included in the payment. The annual inventory of the kitchen cupboards is to be done this month. Lunch hostesses for the June meet- ing will be Mesdames Isobel Delaronde Ann Didura, Chris Dunham and Kay Fras- er. Minutes of the past meeting and the financial statement were adopted as read by Mrs. Bea McCuaig and Mrs. Pat Moore.
