Rex Dye presided for the March meeting £ the Schreiber Public School Home and School ssociation, making a plea for more volunteers o run the E.T.V. in the school during the venings from 6-8 p.m. Mr. Dye introduced Corp. Lamb, RCMP, and onst. Carriere who accompanied him. Corp. amb of the RCMP Narcotics Division, spoke on rug Abuse with a wide and varied display of rticles connected with his subject. He said 'here has been an increase of 137% in drug buse, with the use of heroin increasing. In a juestion and answer period which followed the speech, Corp. Lamb said among the symptons vhich can be detected in users are personality ~hanges, and with marijuana, a distinct odor remains, resembling the smell of burning leaves. School breaks are periods in which par- ants should watch their children. Public opi- nion can be a powerful weapon and concerned parents should use it by demanding that heavier penalties be imposed on 'pushers'. Although the RCMP do not conduct education programs, films and literature are available to those in- terested in doing so. LEGION AUXILIARY Mrs. Ellen Jean Tremblay and Mrs. Rena ROSS were welcomed as new members of the Auxiliary to the Royal Canadian Legion, Schreiber Branch 109, at their regular March meeting, attended by 24. In response to their request it was agreed to canvas the town for the Salvation Army Red Shield appeal. In accepting the invitation of the Terrace Bay Legion auxiliary to a bowling tournament, it was decided to send one team. Mrs. Barbara McCuaig and Mrs. Jean Crook were named as delegates to the district meet- ing heing held in the Ortona Legion, Thunder Bay, on April 7th. It was reported the Juke box ordered by the auxiliary has been installed in the Legion. After some discussion it was agreed to hold another bonspiel if enough entries are made. Mrs. Edna Cocks, Mrs. Earline Johnson and Mrs. Ruth Hiller agreed to convene the arrangements, with the understanding that it is being held by popular demand, due to the enjoyment of the annual one and, that prizes will be 'Fun' a- wards. It was agreed to again serve the minor hockey banquet. And, several eloquent pleas, to give a 'Weinie feast to the small Mice-on-Ice group--who have neither status nor ability, BUT from . whose stumbling enthusiasm come the players of the various town teams: Mrs. Barbara McLaughlin presided for the meeting, with minutes and treasurer's report adopted as read by Mrs. Beatrice McCuaig and Mrs. Pat Moore. The members were most appreciative of the Legion's latest courtesy in setting aside an hour and a half for their monthly meeting. FUNERAL HELD FOR D. MCLELLAN The funeral of the late David John McLellan aged 59, whose death occurred suddenly on March 9th, was conducted on March 12, in Holy Angels Roman Catholic Church, Schreiber, by the Rev. F.J. Meyer. Miss Brenda Lalonde was the organist. The pallbearers were Wesley Miller, James Hale, James Smith, John Pelto, Paul Cebrario and Joe Figliomeni jr. Interment was in Schreiber cemetery. Prior to the church service, the Knights of Columbus held their burial rites in the McNally Funeral Home. Mr. McLellan is survived by his wife, the former Vienna Haapa, two sons - Greg of Nan- aimo, B.C. and Lloyd of Schreiber; four daugh- ters, Pat (Mrs. Ralph Lindberg) Duncan, B.C., Norma (Mrs. Edward Duffy, Cathy (Mrs. Danny Riley) both of Schreiber and June (Mrs. Will- iam Archer) of Thunder Bay; 17 grandchildren and six sisters - Mrs. Florence Lucas, Chap- leau; Mrs. Allan Cassidy, Timmins; Mrs. Ivan Mulligan, Quyon, Que.; Mrs. Don Young, Perth; Mrs. Bob Dumoulin, Montreal; Mrs. Milton Hache, Ottawa. He was predeceased by his par- ents. Mr. McLellan came to Schreiber in 1933 from Quyon, Que., his birthplace and for some worked on the highway, later going into the C.P.R. shop and then to the Terrace Bay paper mill where he was employed until he retired in July 1972. Among those from out of town attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Lindberg, Duncan, B.C.; Mr. and Mrs. Gregory McLellan, Nanaimo, B.C.; Mrs. H. Van Oudheusden, Winni- peg; Mrs. Milton Hachi, Ottawa; Mrs. Allan Cassidy, Timmins; Mr. James Hachi, Ottawa; Mrs. Herb Lucas, Chapleau; Mr. and Mrs. Wil- liam Archer and Sherry, Miss Helen Haapa, Mr. and Mrs. R. Duffy, Thunder Bay; Mr. Melvin Maronese, Manitouwadge.
