UNITED CHURCH CONGREGATIONAL MEETING Among the reports presented at the annual congregational meeting of St. Andrew's United Church were: The official board - a review of the events taking place in I972 - the resigna- tion of Rev. E.C. Prinselaar, special Easter services, with an early morning service follow- ed by breakfast at nine on Easter Sunday; a meet ing of the Pastoral Relations committee accom- panied by the Rev. Dr. Peden of Thunder Bay, with the Terrace Bay Community Church similar committee in regard to having their minister, Rev. P. McKague assist Schreiber during its rupil vacancy. Mrs. G. Lengyel resigned as regular organist but agreed to remain as assistant to Miss Wendy Weaver. Mrs. Margaret Smith resigned as CGIT leader to become a Sunday school teacher, both resignations accepted with regret and apprecia- tion for long-time work. W.G. Gerow agreed to continue as church treasurer with an assistant. The annual autumn fair was again an outstand- ing success, both socially and financially. This time other local charitable associations were invited to set up booths, to advertise their work and, in the case of the Associa- tion for the Retarded, sell articles, in which part they did very well indeed. Mr. and Mrs. George Gordon and W. Gerow were commended for their work in connection with the event, with some laughter at their expense in the possi- bility of their having to rent other living quarters while donations to the Fair keep piling up in their homes. The sale of church calendars and the Ob- server went very well. The Worship committee, chaired by George Gordon, succeeded in having guest speakers come farily regularly, among them Peter Van- derkam, Rev. Paul Scrotton, P.V. Ibbetson, Rev. D. Greenough, Rev. Dr. Peden, Rev. P. McKague, Rev. Romeril, W. Smith, Dean Kerr of Lakehead University and Rev. Daby. The invitation of St. John's Anglican Church Sunday school executive to share Sunday school classes was accepted and the new arrangement proving most successful, the teachers being Mesdames Flora Bryson, Ruth Collinson, Colleen Glad, Ruth Anne Birch, Marlene Doig and Margaret Smith. A highlight of the year, enjoyed by both pupils and parents was the revival of the old-fashioned Christmas concert. This was held in the United Church after which lunch was served in the Anglican church hall with Santa appearing with treats and gifts for each child. The Board warmly thanked the United Church Women for their support of the church in var- ious ways. The property committee stated the church furnace will be overhauled, and repairs made to both the old and the new manses, which are both presently rented. The CGIT were late in starting their year but assisted at the U.C.W. big Christmas bazaar and operated their own booth, and also had a successful Christmas Vesper Service, from which they donated the collection to the National CGIT. Miss Wendy Weaver and Miss Edith Clemens were the leaders, with Mrs. Bern Whent as supt. The U.C.W. reported a rewarding year of or- ganized activities - members' potluck dinner, bake sales, penny auction, guest speakers, and films at meetings, catering for dinners and luncheons, coffee breaks. Unfortunately los- ing four devoted members - Mrs. Prinselaar, Mrs. Etta Gray, Mrs. Nellie Gerow and Mrs. Pearl Petrushak.
