FEBRUARY I4, I973 TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE I7 MEN'S OPEN BONSPIEL The Schreiber Men's Open Bonspiel was most successful with winning rinks being: First Event - Edgar Ray, Brian Ray, D'Arcy Furlonger, Clayton Gordon. Second place = Jim Rogers, Henry Hermes, Bob Laybourne, Don Mc- Lellan. Third - Charlie Koski, Clem Lemay, Paul Rochon, Archie Heinrich. Second event - Brian Birch, Mike Cosgrove, Phil Birch, Ray Cook; Second - George Riley, Edgar LeBlanc, Frank Walker, Geoff. Birch. Third - Glenn Swanson, Alex Krystia, Gordon Lark, Doug Courtenay. Third Event = Charlie Koski, Clem Lemay, Paul Rochon, Archie Heinrich. Second - Bill Stefurak, Jim Moorey, Neil Foot, Jim McKee. Third - Dick Baron, Tony Cvitkovich, Werner Hermes, Bob McMillan. The biggest end prize went to Jim Rogers. First rinks put out were Peter Doig's and Barry Harper's. Brian Birch, bonspiel chairman, was assist- ed in presenting the prizes by Alex Krystia, club president. Schreiber Grace Baptist Church recently enjoyed an old-fashioned Sunday service when both the minister, Rev. Rex Dye and his wife and the congregation wore the clothes of long ago. The collection was taken by Heather Korman, wearing a quaint long frock,completed with pinafore and small sunbonnet. There was a most interesting display of family treasurers - clocks, pictures, lamps and other articles. A pie social ended the evening, with enough pies to even satisfy small boys - whose capa- city for pies is proverbial. Pictures below are Mrs. Dye, Heather Korman and Rev. Dye. LADIES OPEN BONSPIEL The Women's Open Bonspiel of the Schreiber Curling Club, was an outstandingly successful social event, with rinks entered' from Sioux Lookout, Rossport and Terrace Bay and the pri- zes particularly appreciated. The men's contribution to the vent - look- ing after the kitchen and bar added to the fun of the occasion. But, some disappointment occurred when it was "women only" for the entertainment hour. The skits presented included a boxing match, a ballet number, the Ding-a-Ling dance, and Winter Scene. In the events the winners were: First Event Donna Josus, Steffie Dorman, Rhea Beaulieau, Joyce Mercier. Second - Connie Cvitkovich, Norma Crockford, Shirley Caron, Elaine Zwir. Third - Edith Hubelit, Josephine Hubelit, Max- ine Hubelit, Patsy Campbell. Fourth - Helen Dooley, Florence Fischer, Lianne Beauparlant, Flora Bryson. Second Event - First - Earline Johnson, Ruth Hiller, Edie Birch, Eva Gordon. Second - Joy Riley, Shirley Krystia, Ruth Anne Birch, Helen LeBlanc. Third - Freda Duggan, Myrna McCuaig, Cecile Wilson, Jean Tremblay. Fourth- Betty Randa, Barbara Hopper, Molly McMillan, Joan Weaver. Third Event - First - Ann Rheault, Janet Curtis, Joan Byrne, Lori Korman. Second - Mary Kuczmiercjak, June Dukes, Myra Holmes, Norma Courtney. Third - Bina Welbourne, June Sisson, Eirene Harness, Althea Graham. Fourth - Dean Clancy, Jeannette Gunter, Dorothy Koski, Yvonne Rochon. Prize for the first knocked-out rink went to Kay Gillert, 2nd to Kay Fraser. Mrs. Fras- er's women's club president, was bonspiel chairman. Prizes were presented by Eva Gordon, assist- ed by Dorothy Courtney. Connie Cvitkovich, for Terrace Bay, thanked the club for an enjoyable event and the hospitality extended to the vis- itors. LEGION AUXILIARY Mrs. Avila Richardson and Miss Joyce Richard- son were welcomed into membership by the ladies auxiliary to the Canadian Legion, Schreiber Branch I09, at their regular meeting on Feb. 6th. Members were in favour of donating to the Caribbean Veterans' Fund after some further particulars are secured. continued page I8 ......
