TERRACE BAY NEWS Yol. 16 + No. 4 January 24, I973 I5¢ Per Copy TERRACE BAY WINTER CARNIVAL '73 Terrace Bay's second annual Winter Carnival is quickly taking shape for February 15th to I8th. From the opening ceremonies and crowning of the Carnival Queen to the closing events it promises fun for all ages in Terrace Bay. Again this year there will be snowmobile races, several dances for all ages, a snow sculpture contest, a gigantic parade, and thrilling ski races. New events include a mini- bonspiel for all avid (or would-be) curlers, a spectacular figure-skating show and even a log sawing contest. Watch for more details in next week's Terrace Bay News. Carnival is coming! 373 THE AUXILIARY TO THE MCCAUSLAND HOSPITAL The first meeting of the new year was held January I5th in the Terrace Bay High School. The meeting opened with the Auxiliary Prayer. Correspondence included a letter from M. MacLeod thanking the auxiliary for the tree and decorations put in the hospital for Christmas. Since it was the annual meeting, full reports, of the previous years' work, were presented. It was reported that there would be a door to door membership blitz on continued page 2: ..vesess BOARD OF EDUCATION ELECTION Terrace Bay residents will again be called to the polls on Monday, Feb- ruary 5th to cast their votes for election of one member for The Lake Superior Board of Education by Public School Electors. In December of last year when Mun- icipal Elections were held two posi- tions were available on this Board. Mr. Harry Coe was re-appointed by acclamation as he was the only candi- date. Since that time nominations were again open and now we have three en- thusiastic candidates whom we now Present: to you: Joan E. Nugent: Having reaped the benefits of this town for seven and a half years,I feel it is now my duty to make a contribution to the community. Consequently, I have chosen to run for the office of Public School Trustee. I am the mother of two children and have taught school for many years. I have also done much supply teaching in all three schools here. Therefore, I am very much aware of the programs and problems facing parents, students and principals with the ever changing trends in education. It is my desire to see that our children receive the very best instruction and guidance possible at a reasonable cost. I Le- 'lieve that any trustee should be fully committed to this goal.
