FATHER AND SON BANQUET After the singing of O Canada, and a silent Grace the toasts at the annual Cub and Scout Father and Son Banquet were proposed as follows: Scouter Michael O'Neil, to the Queen; Cub Mark Wills to Lord Baden Powell; Scouter Werner James to the fathers, with Doug Courtney responding. Bob Turner of the group committee was M.C. for the occasion which was attended by over one hun- dred. Among those at the head table were Roly Wills, Regional Commissioner and Mrs. Wills of Terrace Bay; Derek Willis, Area Commissioner, Terrace Bay; Cy Pyke, group chairman, Ed Trapp former leader, now with Regional committee; Harvey McCanna, scout master, Mrs. E.C . Prinselaar and Reeve F.V. Harness, who brought the town council's greetings and congratulations to the leaders. Mr. Wills said he'd lost count of the number of Cub and Scout banquets he'd attended in Schreiber and welcomed each invitation - the food was always good, the company enjoygble, and, with a nod at the bevy of pretty girls acting as waitresses = the 'scenery' this time was lovely! He congratulated Ed Trapp on entering the reg- ional Council and brought the council's greetings. He announced there will be a scout comporee at White Sand Lake the end of June into July, for Red Rock, Long Lac, Manitouwadge, Marathon, Schreiber and Terrace Bay. A Cuboree is also planned for September, in Terrace Bay, the date yet to be set. He was very pleased to report new groups have been formed in Armstrong, Ignace and Oxdrift - with a leaders' course recently offered at Trout Lake .. Mr. Pyke welcomed Pat Halonen, Curtis Martin and David S pencer who have volunteered to assist with the cubs, but still more leaders are required to achieve the best out of the activities. He paid tribute to Mrs. Pat Moore, Akila and her assistant Mrs. Avila Richardson. He thanked the mothers who each year prepare the meal and those who work serving it = Mesdames Marg Godin, Norah McGuire, Edna Cocks, Shirley Major, Irene Moorey Rena Ross, Carla Maronese and Rose Pyke. And even the smallest cub, he was sure, enjoyed being served by such deft and pretty girls = Paulette, Denise and Michele Perras, Gaetann Chicoine, Linda Huard, Cathy Cocks, Patricia and Dawn McGrath, Lucy Racioppi, Joan and Sandra Richardson. The cubs gave an interesting display of gymnastics, with Curtis Martin and David Bedard lending a hand, and the scouts presented a pantomime. Photo below by I. McCuaig.
