BELL CANADA RAISES RATES The Canadian Transport Commission has approved new Bell Canada tariffs that will raise rates for many types of service the Company offers, effective on June 2nd. The new rates, which will take effect in Ontario, Quebec, parts of Labrador and the Northwest Territories, will reflect the 47.2 million increase the Commission granted Bell in its May 19 rate case decision. The Company had sought $78.1 million. Among the changes in the tariffs are: = an overall five percent increase in basic monthly rates for business and residential telephones, and for business, residential and hotel extensions. This increase ranges between 20 cents and 30 cents and month for individual residence lines; between 35 cents and 85 cents a month for individual business lines, and five cents on residential extensions. The percentage increase in basic monthly rate will vary insome communities because of a restructuring of rate groups that will eliminate anomalies, and allow Bell flexibility in extending the toll-free calling areas for those communities that request it. An increase of six per cent on auxiliary services such as princess and contempra telephones, speaker- phones, touch-tone bials and switchboards. Contem- pra telephones and residential touch-tone charges will rise from $1.85 to $1.95 a month, and business touch-tone from $2.65 to $2.80 a month. Princess phones will go up a nickel to 95 cents a month. The monthly charge for an unlisted telephone num- ber will go up from 50 cents to $1.00. continued page 2 ........
