JUNE 7, 1972 SCHREIBER TOWN TOPICS Mr. and Mrs. Lester McCuaig have returned from Capreol where they attended the retirement party held for Frank McCuaig, taking an early retirement after 42 years' service with the Canadian National Railway. Mrs. T. Cenerelli has returned to her home in Kitchener after visiting her parents Mr. and Mrs. Ed Nicol and brother Gerry Nicol and other relations and friends in Schreiber. BICYCLE RODEO - JUNE 24TH Don Anderson, of the Schreiber Detachment O.P. P., is in charge of the program for the first Bicycle Rodeo to be held in Schreiber. The event is planned for June 24 and will be a three part exercise, open to elementary students from kindergarten to grade eight. Events for tricycles and small bikes are presently un- der consideration. Const. Anderson has already met with school staffs to discuss the written part of the tests, which will be done in school . The rodeo will be held on the east end of Manitoba Street, the block closed, or, in the event of rain, in the arena. Prior to this a bicycle inspection will be conducted in and around the town hall on June 17 = or, in the arena, in event of rain. The event is being sponsored by the Schreiber Kin- smen and it is hoped the public will support the ven- ture by their attendance. : Const. Anderson has had previous experience being involved in a similar most successful one at Keka- becka where, with the Provincial Parks' authorities' co-operation, a miniature city was set up in the park there to familiarize the kids with city street traffic regulations. Annual trophies will be present, with 'keeper' trophies, and, other smaller awards. GUS KRAUSE HONOURED ON RETIREMENT As he completed his last day of work, on May 5th before retirement on pension, Gus Krause was greeted by his family, other relations, friends, fellow-work- ers, and C .P.R. officials, all offering good wishes. On behalf of the Company, Alex Boyle, supt. Lake Superior Division presented their congratulations wishing him good health and contentment in his re- tired years. . The crowd accompanied Gus and his wife home for an'evening of merry-making, and on the following evening, their home was thronged with relations and old friends in the community bringing greetings and gifts. : Robert and Ernest Krause and their families present- ed a color T.V., another gift from relatives and friends was an easy chair, and from friends a long satin streamer covered with bills. Two special cakes drew admiring looks = one, made by Mrs. Ernest Krause, in the form of a diesel unit, and the other made by his wife, and decorated by Mrs. Con Duggan, a sister-in-law, with a minia- ture train circling one tier and other railway symbols used. Mr. Krause came to Canada from Germany in 1929 and to Schreiber in 1931. In 1936 he entered the CPR service, working in various departments until 1941 when he went on the firemen's list, retiring as an engineer. He made his first trip with engineer J.D .(Jimmy) Bryson, and on Gus' first trip as an engineer, Harold McParland was his fireman. His mates on his last day of work were Bill Cook and Bob Roffey. The best part of the evening of course was the re- calling of incidents, and certain trips of earlier years, and since both Mr. and Mrs. Krause are ardent fishermen, some tall tales of good fishing days and catches. Mr. and Mrs. Krause are keeping their home in 'Schreiber, to divide their time between it and their summer home at Terrace Beach, but, they will spend winters in a warmer climate, cheerfully admitting they are tired of shovelling snow. Attending the party from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Krause, with children Shirley, Deanno, Lisa and Ernest Jr., Mrs. Odin Paske, Miss Odeen Paske, Bill Probert, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Kerslake, Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Friske and two sons, Dr.R.A, Welbourne and Mrs. Welbourne, Mr. and Mrs. Len Carlisle, Mrs. Annie Wood, Miss Shirley Winters, Thunder Bay; Mrs. Winnie Deacon, Lively, Ont.; Willie Heinrich, and Mr. and Mrs. E.
