The second event went right down to the final rock in an extra end between the Riley and Sons Contracting and the Men's Fastball team. Winning top in this event] finally was Barry Harpwr of the Fastball Club. With Robin Moore, third, Norm Boon second and Leon Ver- done lead. For the underdog team they had a lot of supporters urging them on. The Riley and Sons Contra=- cting team of George, Joy, Danny and Shane Riley was certainly overpowered and outdrawn in this game. SUPERIOR VOICE THOUGHT OF THE WEEK "A baby is an angel whose wings decreas as his legs increase." - Early French Saying DRAMA CLUB This year, the Drama Club at the Schreiber Campus plans to present two plays. The first, a drama, under the directorship of Mr. H. McCormick, is entitled, | Never Saw Another Butterfly . The second, directed by Mrs. S. Angelini, is the comedy The Little Red Schoolhouse . - Rehearsals for both plays are well under way, and it is hoped that they will be presented early in March. PUBLIC SPEAKING Students from Manitouwadge, Marathon, and Lake Superior High School competed in the Zone Finals of the Ontario Hydro Public Speaking Contest in Mara- thon on Friday, February11. Representing our school were Holly McKay in the prepared division, and Corned Prinselaar in the impromptu section. Although our students did not carry away first prize, they did give an excellent showing. Holly presented her speech on "Pollution", while Corned chose as his activities will take place after school hours through- out the week, and the entire day on Friday, March 10, will be devoted to Winter Carnival events. There will also be a dance on March 10 at which the King and Queen will be crowned. The dress code has been revised, and students will now be permitted to wear blue jeans to classes. OBEA TYPEWRITING CONTEST ENTRANTS The Ontario Business Education Association held its 26th annual Typewriting Contest at Sir Winston Churchill C. & V. |., Thunder Bay, on Thursday eve- ning, February 17. Students from Lake Superior High School who com- peted in this typewriting speed contest were Brenda Cebrario and Linda Fraser in the Junior Classification, and Valerie Larson and Sharon Scott who competed as a team in the Senior Classification. They were ac- companied to Thunder Bay by the Commercial Direct- or, Mr. L. Fraser. The girls made a good showing, and they reported they were pleased to have the opportunity of repres- enting the school in this contest. These contestants were selected in a school competition, which was held the previous week. BASKETBALL TEAMS TRAVEL TO MANITOUWADGE On February 17, the Senior Girls' and Boys' Bas- ketball teams of Lake Superior High School travelled to Manitouwadge . The Senior Girls defeated the Man- itouwadge team handily by a score of 65 to 30. The Golden Hawks won their game bya score of 63 to 48, with the top scorers being Tony Commisso with 20 points, Bill Smilsky, 12 points, and Jim Corrigan 10 points. Jim was also the top rebounder of the game with 21 rebounds. At home games, the Junior Boys' team defeated Manitouwadge by a score of 51 to 20. Steve Ferguson was the top scorer with 13 points. The Junior Girls were defeated by a score of 31 to 17. LSHS TEAMS AT THUNDER BAY topic "The Credit System". Congratulations are extendt ed to all competiotors. STUDENT COUNCIL NEWS ( by Dale Boutilier, President) The Lake Superior High School Winter Carnival will be held this year from March 6 to March 10. Various During the past weekend the Junior and Senior Boys Basketball teams had the opportunity of playing in Thunder Bay against Lakeview and Selkirk High Schools. The Junior Boys lost 53 to 29 to Lakeview, and by a a close score of 54 to 40 against Selkirk. The Senior Boys were also defeated, 75 to 54, by Lakeview, and (continued page 12)
