Mr. Brien Lever was appointed Minor Department Head, Physical Education, effective September 1, 1970, at the Manitouwadge High School. The Boerd approved recommended appointments to staff effective September 1, 1970 - Mr, James Bishop ~ Schreiber High; Mr. Leslie Kruger - Terrace Bay High; Miss Carole Naroski - Marathon High and Mr. Richard Pokorny - Schreiber High School. The Board approved purchase of house at 478 Superior Avenue, Terrace Bay, Ontario from Elymer Leduc at $13,500. A letter to the taxpayers of S.S. No, 1 PIC (Heron Bay South), Port Coldwell and Rossport, advised that thers will be no educational tex levy this year and further adjustments will be made in the 1971 levy. BY-LAW NO. 6 (Being a By-lew to strike mill rates in School Section No. 1, Jackfish for 1970) wes duly passed. The Board accepted and approved the policy statements for the leke Superior Board of Education as suggested by the Policy Committee. (See Policy at end of meeting report.) The Board sccept and approve that the portion of the proposed regulations known as 'Time, Locetion and Duration of Board Meetings'. (See Policy Statement.) The next regular meeting of the Board will be held in the Terrace Bey High School on Saturday, September 12, 1970, at 11.00 a.m. A 1970 Board Meeting No. 0 Agreement reached with the Building Service Employees International Union on July 8, 1970. POLICY FOR THE LAKE SUPERIOR BOARD OF EDUCATION 1. In accordance with the desire of this Board that the public be as fully informed as possible in sdvance of matters that will be placed before the Board, the agenda for Board meetings is to be given as wide and advance dis- tribution as is reasonsble and fessible, 2. Recognizing the fect that certain information mey be considered as classified, it is the policy of the Board that such items be discussed in meetings closed to the public. 3, In aceerdance with the desire of this Board that the public be as fully informed of educational matters as is possible, it is the policy of the Board that in so far as is reasonable and feasible, Board meetings be held in the larger communities on a rotational basis. 4, In scoordance with the policy of this Board that its decisions be made in a demo cratic mammer, a minimum of nine Trustees is nécessavy to establish a quorum at meetings of the Whole Board or at meetings of Fommittees of the Whole Board, 5. For extension of a meeting beyond the three or four hour 1imit, a simple majority vote of Trustees present is re- quired, the Chairman voting on the question. An extension of time to & limit of 11.00 p.m. on weeknights or to 5.00 peme on Saturdays mey be permitted by this procedure. To proceed beyond this point will require the unanimous consent of Trustees present.
