MEN'S CURLING CLUB The cracking pace set by the Curling Club this season continued without a let-up over the past week. Inter-club competition featured the week's activities again, with a successful defence of the Chapples trophy as the main event, Over the past week-end a proper chall- enge was received from the Schreiber Club, which sent two of our rinks to the neigh- bouring rail center, and brough two of their rinks to Terrace Bay. Gord Dodge triumphed at Schreiber while Ed Pineagult dropped his geme there, Jack Wellings and Bert Lohr cut down the visitors on our ice and the net result was a four rink total advantage of eleven points. Congratulations, fellows, We would rather not talk about the three rinks Chapleau sent down on Saturday -=- but in the interest of unbiased report- ing we must say they gave our three home rinks a good drubbing. Harris Haughn, Bill Baillie, and Bert Lohr were on the short end of the scores, Of course this was psychology -- no cups or prizes were at stake -- and our boys just wanted to make them feel welcome, and set them up for the next do when we have 2 little something on the line, If you want to see Northern Ontario, your best bet is to join the Curling Club. We have three more rinks out junketing this coming week-end, Harris Haughn and Malcolm Craig are putting together = couple of rinks to take up to visit our country cousins at Longlac, while Jack Wellings will boss =a crew bent on demonstrating the finer points of the art at the Beardmore Bonspiel, We are particularly interested in the Longlac ehallenge, which represents a possible new annual competition between Terrace, Longlac and Kapuskasing -- a sort of family affair. Our insurance friend, Saul Ross, has presented a cup for this annual meeting. Geographic considerations pretty well dictate the annual meeting should be held at Longlac, the midway point, It is something of a tribute to the curler's mettle to find four rinks making 400 mile week-end jaunts just to push a few rocks down an icy alley. On the other hand, once you have en- joyed Woodlands'hospitelity, it is much easier to understand, In our own weekly competition, the Imperial Bank event would have been completed this week except that some of the winning skips are off galivanting, It should wind up early next week, As it stands, Al Cline tagged Rune Ostling to move into the semi- finals. Wellings took Haughn to move into the consolation semi~finals., (No, no, Jack- (cont. in-next column) Page 3 MEN'S CURLING CLUB (cont, from col. 1) son, not again?) This was a postponed game played on day morning, all of which gqes to prove Harris would have been better off in Church, McColl tangles with Lohr and Dodge has it 'out with Pineault in other erucial games of this event. The Hudson's Bay event is now about half through. Cliff Knauff dropped a tough geme to Haughn. Ostling took McColl's size (Al, wha' hoppen to that jinks?) only to be cut down by Viking Olsen, Still possible winners are Dodge, McMillan, Boudreau, Cline, Wellings and MacDonald. (You will note we have gone out of our way not to mention Monteith in this issue.) After that -- the Brading's cup goes on the block, And after that -- slush no doubt. Which reminds us, our thoughts are turning more and more to fishing, these beautiful days. 0-0-0 COTTAGE FOR SALE At Walker's Lake. Immediate possess- ion.
