Downey, form- erly of Terrace Bay Ontario (his fam- ily address is now Arcata, California) is with the RCAF, Air and Seas Elements. The happy couple's present address is CFB, Trenton, Ontario. VENTURERS PARTICIPATE IN CANOE TRIP July 4th to 12th were very big days for eight mem- bers of the Ist Terrace Bay Venturers. During that preiod, Gary Opas, David and Dale Randa, Richard Smith, Michael Regis, Bevin Schritt, Alex Vander+ kam and advisor Doug Whicker participated in their Steel Lake Canoe Trip. The boys, as planned, went as far as Steel Lake but not down the Steel River. The group left town early on the morning of Satur- day, July 4th with four canoes and about ten packs full of tents, gear and supplies. The first night found them approximately two miles up Cairngorm Lake: Sunday, 'the fifth was spent resting and fishing. On Monday, they broke camp and set sail for the south end of Steel Lake. For the next four days, they set up a stand- . ing camp, fished, baked bread and biscuits and went canoeing. It rained only once, on the night of Tues day the seventh. On Thursday and Friday the temp- erature soared well into the 90's, making things a little uncomfortable. Two fly-in groups also paid the boys a visit. Breaking camp on Saturday, they made their way from Steel Lake back to their camp on Cairngorm Lake. Sunday saw the group home. Everyone truly enjoyed themselves. The boys extend a thank you to those who loaned canoes, Mr. E. Opas for supplying transportation and for any others who in any way added to the success of this camp.
