MAY 14, 1970 SCHREIBER POSSIBILITY OF CRAFT GUILD IN SCHREIBER A "Craft In" was held at Confederation College, Thunder Bay the end of April. At the meeting a steering committee was formed for the organization of a Northwestern Ontario craft council. One representative from each town or area represented was chosen. Priorities to be considered for the steering com- mittees are: A news letter for better communication between communities; travelling shows, to find money to encourage community "Craft-In-Action" and consider long range objectives. Sister Mary O'Neill represented Schreiber and volunteered for the steering committee. In order to set up a craft guild in Schreiber, a meeting will be held at Holy Angels Centre, Schreiber on Wednesday, May 20th at 8 p.m. All interested in arts and crafts, young and old please come and attend this meeting. MR. SAUMUR NEW PUBLIC SCHOOL PRINCIPAL Regular monthly meeting of the Schreiber Elem- entary Home and School Association was held Thursday evening, May 7th. President, Mrs. R. Morrill opened the meeting, Mrs. J. Spillane read minutes of the last meeting and Mrs. C. Pyke, treasurer, gave her report. Mrs. Morrill congratulated Mr. Cressman on his promotion to supervising principal of elementary schools in this district. She also thanked Miss Shelby Closs and. Bob Cressman for taking some of the members to the Lake Superior School Board meeting in Manitouwadge, and Mrs. Jartus was congratulated on the way she presented the brief (on the importance of a gym in the new public school expansion program) at that meeting. Mr. Cressman informed the members that Mr. Saumur (vice-principal) of Manitouwadge Public School for the last seven years would be the new principal of Schreiber Public School, his duties commencing the first day of September. Mrs. M. Reid and Mrs. G. Miller have resigned from the staff . A motion was made that a gift and thank you note be sent to Tina Ellacott for all her work in raising money for the home and school . A donation had been sent to the Cancer Society, but from now on it was decided all requests for TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE 11° donations would have to be brought up at the regular meetings. It was moved that the Association would buy ¢ schoel pins for the graduates and they should be ordered now. Mrs. G. Drake and Mrs. R. Ellacott agreed to go on the committee to arrange a program for grade eight graduation which will be held the latter part of June. Mr. Cressman stated they are be taking the school children to Thunder Bay to see the points of interest in the city, the first part of June. Mrs. H. Jartus showed a film "A Days Poison" which was discussed later. The meeting was adjourned and coffee and cookies were served. UNITED CHURCH WOMEN HOLD MEETING The monthly meeting of United Church Women was . held Wednesday, evening May 6th in the Church Hall with eighteen members and two visitors present. Mrs. Norma Fummerton, president, opened the meeting with the U.C.W. Purpose and Hymn. Rev. Prinselaar showed a film called "The Parade " | with a lively discussion after. David Drake and Joyce Richardson were present' and Joyce thanked the members for sending her to the "Knack" work shop and she spoke briefly on how she benefited and that she would like to share her knowledge with the community. Treasurer's report was. given and it was decided to give a donation to the Official board. The sewing committee asked for a small donation towards the purchase of apron material . The official board report was given by Mrs. Norma Fummerton. The Bible society will hold their meeting in the Anglican Church Hall, May 26th. It was agreed that the U.C.W. would cater to the McCuaig wedding in August and also to the | C.G.1.T. later in May. Mrs. Beth Macadam read a thank you note from Rev. Lavender for the card sent to him on his 80th birthday. Least coin was collected, followed by prayer and benediction. Lunch was served by Mesdames Myra Holmes, Bessie Scott, and S. Petrushak. Mrs. Elton Fummerton is a patient in General Hospital, Thunder Bay.
