McCuaig KINETTES PRESENT FASHION SHOW Mrs. Diane Figitiomeni was commentator for Schreiber Ki- nette spring fashion show held in high school. An exceptionally large crowd was on hand. A. -A. Ramsay represented sponsor, Zellers Ltd. Modelling the 77 ensembles shown were Susan Phillips, Lu- cette Chicoine, Joyce Reid, Beulah Speziale, Olga Cress- man, Rosa Speziale, Anne Marie McGrath, Julie Speziale, Judy Godin, Jeff Reid, Clyde Gordon, Alex Gouthro and Allan Le- Blane. The Kinettes were dressers for show with Kinsmen provid- ing runway, sound equipment, and later presiding at coffee urn during intermission when cakes were served. Door prize was won by Mrs. Norman Glad. The clothes were for the most part: in the casual mode, emi- nently practical for Northwest- ern Ontario's summer activi- ties. They were gay in color, mostly washable, designed for both player and spectator sports. Ehsembles were particularly attractive for Schreiber, where summers are spent on the beaches. Youngsters' togs in Ernie Willoughby of Sudbury visited his mother, Mrs. Ernest Willoughby, Sr., Schreiber. great Variety were popular. 'Much admired for leisure hours were very feminine, full and graceful gowns and pants, equaliy suitable for afternoon lawn lounging or evening host- ess duties. Of particular interest were coat and dress ensembles, equally acceptable for church, formal teas or wedding recep- tions. Fashion highlights were dog- earred collars, belts, buttons, return of the waistline-- style, scarves: either alone or draped as collars, weather repellent materials, scooter skirts, boot- legger pants, jump suits. Spe- cial materials for travelling in- cluding wash and wear gar- ments and stretch for sportwear were widely accepted. Attractive nightwear includ- ing pegnoirs and dusters were shown. Particularly admired in men's wear were an Edwardian suit in green worn by Alex Gouthro and a sports ensemble by Allan Leklance. The only gesture toward the romantic was an _ enchanting dréam gown of floating tiers of cloud pink chiffon for a bride's trousseau. Jim Pounder of Northwestern Regional Library exchanged 445 books from bookmobile assisted by Mrs. Althea Graham, in Schreiber earlier in the week. PAGE 17 Roll call at the Women's Institute meeting on April 14th was answered with articles for the Cancer Cupboard supplies. Mrs. Joe Campbell presided for the meeting and the motto was "Money - Spend some, give some and "save some." Dues were paid and a donation of $5 .00 made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Mrs. Pat Beno sent a donation to the organization in appreciation of the loan of the baby scales. Home Economist, Mrs. Sandra of Thunder Bay, wrote outlining courses now available. Members made no definite decision. Mrs. Ken Williamson reported sending 15 cards last-month and also presented her annual report. Mrs. Campbell reported on the progress of the bench being made for the W.I. to be presented for use in the town park. Her annual report showed a most successful year for the organization. Mrs. Russell Macadam, historical research chair- man, gave an interesting account of many local im- provements, a description of interesting rock col- lections and report of an interesting address given during the winter by Clem Downey, long-time area prospector. Mrs. Wesley Clemens, education and current- events convenor, read an account of the qualifi- cations demanded and rules which must be obeyed by teachers in the 20's - a far cry from those of toda .
