TERRACE BAY NEWS WORLD DAY OF PRAYER Taking part in the World Day of Prayer service, held in St. Andrew's United Church, were Mrs. Dorothy Lengyel, organist, Mrs. Hazel Bailey, first leader; Mrs. Marj Morrill, reader; Mrs. Wilhelmina Prinselaar, 2nd leader; Mrs. Aletha Morris, 3rd leader; Mrs. Charles Todesco, Mrs. Irene Moorey, Mrs. Mary Shack, Mrs. Norma Fummerton, Mrs. Kay Stefurak, with Mrs. Bessie Scott and Mrs. Louise Guillet, taking the offering. The address was given by Sister Mary O'Neil, her topic "A Mission in Bolivia." Mrs. Beth Macadam ran a film on Bolivia,with Mrs. Marg Spillane doing the commentary . Representing St. Andrew's, St. John's Anglican, Grace Baptist, and Holy Angel's Roman Catholic Churches during the service were Mrs. Hazel Bailey, Mrs. Marj Morrill, Mrs. June Sisson, Mrs. Day Stefurak, Mrs. Norma Fummerton, Mrs. Freda Duggan and Mrs. Bern Whent. Twenty American couples are here for a winter holiday, bringing forty snow machines. ROSSPORT HISTORICAL ITEMS SEEN AT OPEN HOUSE _A large crowd took in the Open House at the school Wednesday evening when parents and neigh- bours viewed student projects on pollution, art and 'craftwork, rock collections, polished stones (some mounted in jewellery) and stones being found in this area. The Indian artifacts on display were a popular attraction,among them being an Indian Tikinagon cradle board, a bean pot and a carved wooden laddle for lifting boiled food from a pot. The history display of the collection of antiques many over 100 years old drew favorable comment. Among articles on display were silver tea services, butter dishes, copper teapots and kettles, wine funnels, wood carving, oil paintings on China, Jewellery box, religious articles, fans, china dish- es, and a 1902 school register. Teachers that year were Miss Alice Barker and H.L. Cameron. In September and October, the school was closed due to Diptheria epidemic which caused the death of several children. An 1903 assessment roll ledger was another inter- esting item of local history which showed much of MARCH 12, 1970 -- the village was still in the hands of the Hudson Bay Company. The teacher served coffee following a short skit entitled "The Hasty Pudding" put on by the students ALTAR SOCIETY MEETS Mrs. Herb Legault hosted members of the R.C. Altar Society Thursday evening at their regular mee ing. President, Mrs. E. Gerow led the opening and closing exercises. Correspondence included a letter from J. Stokes M.P.P. regarding information required by the organization. The Parish Council wrote inviting a member of the organization to attend the March meeting in Schreiber. Thank you cards were read and a discussion followed on the most suitable Tabernacle to be purchased from several listed in a Montreal illustration. Mrs. Agnes Legault presente the financial statement showing the funds are low and Mrs. Camilla Legault read the minutes - Plans were finalized for the annual card party social evening to take place Wednesday with a luck supper. Mrs. Todesco offered her home for © the event and to purchase the prizes.
