-. PAGE 12 SCHREIBER COUNCIL QUOTES Following a long discussion, at their regular Septem-- ber meeting, the municipal council decided to advertise for a manager for the 1969-70 season. A three month leave of absence was granted ': Asst. clerk J. Gordon and two weeks leave to C. Boon Councillors H. Fischer and H. McParland ill attend the Northwestern Ontario Municipal Conference in Port Arthur this week. A letter from W. Furlonger concerning the hazard to pedestrians which exists in the subway where children persist in riding bicycles on the narrow sidewalk, was discussed, and Reeve Harness folunteered to look: into the matter, a long-standing complaint. The Reeve and clerk were authorized to sign the nec- essary documents in connection with the widening of Kinsway (hwy. 17) - proposed by the Department of Highways . The resignations of J. Rummery, M. Smilsky, F. Fummerton and F. McKenna from the rink committee were accepted with regret. The Lake Supeior Board advised council that the proposal of Headway Co. re housing will not be ac- cepted . The Board will obtain tenders from several companies for consideration and comparison. The Schreiber-Terrace Bay Separate School Board requested withdrawal from an y further plans regarding housing . The Ontario Water Resources Commission acknowledg ed the completed sewage works proposal received from Schreiber. Terrace Bay sent a copy of a resolution which they intend to present at the Northwestern Ontario Mun- icipal Convention and this was held over for further study. Water works accounts totalling $123.17 and general accounts amounting to $3727.15 were passed for pay- ment. After some discussion the suggestion to place an arch culvert on Brunswick St. was left to Edwin Borut- ski, town superintendent. It was decided to purchase a 1965 Chevy Van from Spadoni Bros. for use of the Fire Bridge, and to turn over to Spadoni's a Chevy sedan delivery for $100. ' Moving with the Times Caccamo's took it to the people over the proposed change in store hours. The 'suggestion was that the store, From Sept. 29, on throu gh the winter months, be closed Monday and open all day Wednesday. ASSEMBLY PRESIDENTS VISITS REBEKAHS Mrs. Sarah Laidlaw, president of the Rebekah Assembly of Ontario, paying her official visit to Ruby Rebekah Lodge, was honored at dinner party in the Restaurant LeBlanc, prior to the business meeting. Mrs. Laidlaw was formally introduced by Mrs. Jean Fisher, Mrs. Mary Nasvesky, Herald of the Assembly, by Mrs. Helen Wallace, and Mrs. Jean Ditmars, D.D.P., by Mrs. Jean Stitt. Mrs. Norma Fummerton N.G.,and Mrs. Christine Morris, V.G., presided for the meeting, welcoming | in addition to the guests already named, Mrs. Rose Rogers, of Amethyst Lodge, and Mrs. Mary Marr of Silver Star Lodge. The president entered the lodge room through a guard of honor - Mesdames Jessie Macadam, Dora Weaver, Lil Harris, Mary Husband, Lil Christie, and Verna Linkewich all bearing tall stalks of ' glads . Mrs. Fummerton presented a corsage and gifts to Mrs. Laidlaw and gifts to others of the visitors. In her address Mrs. Laidlaw stressed the obliga- tions accepted when taken into membership, and described some of the bigger projects which should be supported - The Visual Research Foundation Fund, The 1.0.0.F. Home at Barrie, Ontario and the Bank . Following the meeting the group adjourned to the lower hall for the celebration of their 44th anniversary and the president cut the handsome cake made by Mrs. Ida Krause. BRIDE ELECT HONORED Miss Donna Lee Slater, whose marriage to Arthur Crawford takes place in Winnipeg on October 11, honored by her Schreiber friends at a tea held in the United Church hall when she was assisted in receiving by Mrs. Dominic Figliomeni, and Mrs. Alvin Slater., her aunt, Mrs. Wesley Miller was dining room hostess and the tea poured by Mrs. Douglas Reynolds and continued page 14........ omenernnes 2 was her sister,
