The races were managed by Lawrence Tremblay, Bill Stefurak and Penny Park,and working in other ways were Mesdames Bill Stefurak, George Walsh, Art Moorey, Joe Caccamo, Hobden Spikula, Gerry Banning, Ed Borutski, Fred McColeman, Martyn Ryan, Borden Ross and L.R. NEW OFFICERS ELECTED The executive and board of directors of the Schreiber-Terrace Bay Association for the Mentally Retarded met in the Catholic Parish Centre in Schreiber on Wednesday September 3rd. ' Due to the summer recess of the Provincial Association the local affiliation is being accepted on September 5th and the charter will be presented at a meeting on November 10th. , A gala evening is being planned for this occasion when it is expected local and Provincial dignitaries will take part in the program. The public is cordial invited to attend this meeting, which will be held on an evening, to meet the officers and learn of the plans proposed. The time and place of this meeting will be announced later. An open meeting will be held on October 5th in the Catholic Parish Centre when all members are TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE 13 invited to attend and assist the directors and execu- tive in planning for the Charter Night. - ' Following the June meeting, before the summer recess, the public interest in the profit was shown by the application of 44 for membership cards, an indication of support most appreciated by the Asso- ciation. Others wishing to join may contact Mrs. Gerald Banning, Schreiber or R. Sinotte, Terrace Bay . Officers elected for the Association are - Mrs. Gerald Banning, president; Mrs. Vern Hopper, | Terrace Bay, first vice president; Miss Muriel Holmes second vice president; Mrs. G.T. Lengyel, recording secretary; Mrs. D.Q. Hamilton, corresponding secretary; Mrs. A. Allen, Terrace Bay - treasurer; Directors - Rev. T.G. Husser, Terrace Bay; Rev. J.M. Cano, Schreiber; Mr. Don Laporte, Terrace Bay; Mr Tom Quintin, Schreiber. Mrs. Banning and Mrs. Lengyel are the Regional Representatives, Rolly Sinotte, Terrace Bay and Miss Muriel Holmes, Schreiber are membership chairmen ' Now that the Association has been formed the next important step is to gather the nucleus of the proposed class A,and it is hoped parents with trainable retarded children will contact the Association to discuss enrolling them and take advantage of this, the first opportunity of its kind offered in Terrace Bay, Schreiber and Rossport . The first week of school has flown by and the pupils of grade five at Holy Angels are in the swing of things. 'A project on Schreiber has brought about interviews with some of the residents of Schreiber. Dr. T. Wykes freely gave of his time one evening to answer the queries of the studentss regarding his profession.
