(Tommy) Whent, locomative en- gineer, was congratulated by of- ficials, fellow workers, family and friends when he came in on his last run on July 15, before 'retirement on pension from the Canadian Pacific Railway, af- ter 52 years service. Mr. Whent entered the service as a call boy at White River in '1917, .and worked in various de- partments before becoming a fire man in 1940, He was '"'set up" as engineer in 1944, working in this capacity until his retirement. A brother, Jack Whent, of Fort William, paid tribute to "Tommy" saying 52 years ser- vice {s an outstanding record, but it being time to retire one must face-up to walking away from old accustomed haunts and duties and with pleasant antici- pation, some feeling of uncer - tainty, even some regrets. Retiring, he said, is not only launching into a new life, it is a separation, a moving out of the lives of many individuals with whom you have been associated: with, worked with, and whose problems you have shared. -- this is the regretful part of re-j tirement.
