JUNE 5, 1969 | DATA PROCESSING AND GUIDANCE FIELD TRIP On Thursday, May 22nd, sixty-seven Schreiber High School students travelled to the Lakehead University and Confederation College. At Confederation College a complete tour of the premises included the new ultra-modern Honeywell computer area. After lunching, atthe College, the students went to Lakehead University where they were allowed full freedom to see and operate the closed-circuit T.V. machines in the T.V.. Studio. They were then given a full demonstration of the 1.B.M. computer . Mr. Gouthro and Mrs, Mulligan accompanied the students on the trip. Many students felt the exper- ience was a valuable one in that much had been learned in Data Processing classes up to that time which was largely theory, was now seen put into practice. GOLF TOURNAMENT A golf tournament was held May 24 at Terrace Bay with several area schools participating. In the overall scores Marathon came first, Schreiber second and Terrace Bay third. Trent Desau!niers came first individually witha final score of 82. His prize was three golf balls. The "most honest golfer" prize was also won by a Schreiber player, Larry Power. His prize was one golf ball. Congratulations fo all participants and special thanks to Mr. Dukes who accompanied the school team to Terrace Bay. ELECTION CAMPAIGN During the week Mya 25-30, Schreiber students campaigned vigorously for various candidates to fill posts in the 1959-70 Students' Council. Each candidate gave a great campaign and workec very hard. After all, "it's not whether you win or lose it's how you play the game." Because we are proud of all who took part in the election campaign, the following ss a list of the nominees: President - David Drake and Pat McParland, Sec- retary - Billie Weaver, Treasurer - Ann2 Marie S*. Jean, Social Convener - Lynda Fontaine and Lola TERRACE BA NEW PAGE 15 Scott, President of the Athletic Association - Joyce Cluette, Albert Courtemanche, and Clover Dukes. # TRACK AND FIELD MEET The Lake Superior School Division (L.S.S.D.) held o track and field meet in Manitouwadge on Wednesday, May 23,1969. Although Schreiber placed seventh, due to the smallness of the track team, many individual athletes did exceptionally well. The following students won places of impor- tance at the meet: 60 yd. dash -(Jr.) Clover Dukes - 3rd. Standing broad jump (Jr.) - Susan Phillips 4th; Triple jump (Jr.) - Clover Dukes - 3rd; Shot put (Jr.) - Billie Weaver 2nd; 880 years (Jr. ) Bill Hiller 4th; 880 yards (sr.) - Valerie Turner. 3rd. ; Standing broad jump (sr.) - Claire Belliveau 2nd; Running broad jump (sr.) - Mary Speziale Ist Triple jump (sr .) - Mary Speziale Ist; Shot put (sr. ) - Claire Belliveau, 2nd and Lenore Campbell 4th. Discur (sr.) - Lenore Campbell 2nd and Nola Fummerton 4th. SCHREIBER DETACHMENT PRESS RELEASE During the past week members of the Schreiber _ Detachment conducted investigations into two break and enters. These matters are still under investiga- tion. One theft of money over $50.00 was investigated and the guilty party was apprehended and has been charged. There were two liquor control act inves- tigations which resulted in three persons being charged. One traffic accident was investigated. There was approximately $1200.00 property damage as a result of this accident. Five charges were laid under the provisions of the Ontario Highway Traffic Act. Twelve motorists were issued warnings for minor-infractions and de- fective equipment. CORRECTION The C.P.R. Credit Union Office hours for Friday's are 2- 4p.m. not 1 ~ 4 p.m. as reported in last week's news. My children are at the perfect age - too old to cry at night and too yoyng to borrow my car.
