The Rossport - Schreiber Progressive Conservative Association held its regular meeting in the Anglican Church hall on March 27 with Ray Pitkanen presiding It was decided to hold regular meetings on the first Thursday, every third month, in members' homes, with Mrs. Lester McCuaig volunteering to host the one on June 5. : The annual meeting will be held on April 17 when election of officers will take place. Letters were drafted to be sent to the local municipal council and J.E. Stokes, MPP concerning securing a resident Doctor for the town. Also to Mr. Stokes and other ministers regarding the recent ruling on smelt fishing . Mrs. D.Q. Hamilton gave the treasurer's report. A letter will be sent to the riding secretary with a suggestion for an innovation at the riding meeting, if approved by other associations. ae WILLIAM ALCORN BURIED IN SCHREIBER The funeral of the late William Alcorn whose death at the age of 76, occurred in his own home in Schreiber on March 25, was conducted by Kev. Arthur Chabot in St. John's Anglican Church on March 27. Miss Wendy Weaver was organist and: the hymns sung were Abide With Me and Unto The Hills. Honorary pall bearers were Joe Campbell, Walter Wilkes, Jack Phillips, Nelson Smith, George Birch, and George Duncan, and active bearers were Russell Campbell, Bill Paradis, Albert Costa, Geoff. Birch, Jack Bryson and Henry Paske. Interment was in Schreiber cemetery. Mr. Alcorn came to Schreiber in 1910 from Sarnia and was employed with the C.P.R. until his retire ment in 1957 as a train conductor. During the bleak years he worked with others on various departments in the Company service,as a clothing saleman, and prior to returning as full-time trainman, established © a flourishing insurance business . He married in 1911 to Hetty Taylor and the couple have lived since in Schreiber. Besides his wife he is survived by two sons, Renold and Albert (Bud) of Fort William, a daughter, Lillian (Mrs. Bill Love) of Hazelton, B.C. seven grandchildren, and a sister and brother in the United States. He was a member of A.F. and A.M. #987, Shuniah Lodge, Port Arthur . Love, of Hazelton, B.C. Mr. and Mrs. Renold Alcorn, with daughters Ruth and Arlene, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Alcorn, with Evelyn and David, Mr. and Mrs. Clarnec Bangs, and Mrs. Leonard Porte lance of Fort William. FIFTY - FOUR HOURS OF DANCING Attending the funeral from out of town were Mrs . Twelve couples entered in the dance-a-thon spon sored by the Schreiber Progressive Youth in the Town Hall. After dancing 54 hours two couples were occlaimedwinners - Bill Drake and Barbara Stefurak, David LeBlanc and Margaret Borutski, each receiving $20.00. Chaperones were provided throughout the event and refreshments supplied. a Mr. Bill Love, with Billy and Judy Love, of | Hazelton, ,B.C. are here with Mrs. Love who came to be with her mother during her father's last illness ¥ Mrs. Arthur LeBlanc and her mother Mrs. N. Mykichuck, are visiting relations in Winnipeg - Reeve F.V. Harness, councillors Harold McPar- land and Harold Fisher, and Mrs. Mary Jarva, - clerk-treasurer, attended the Thunder Bay Munic ipal League convention in the Lakehead. Laura Carmiachel and Mary Lynn O'Brien spent last week in Port Arthur with Mrs. M. Payetta, Laura's grandmother . Mr. and Mrs. Sten Lif 'of Cochenour are visiting Mr. and Mrs. Leonard O 'Brien and Mr. and Mrs. Lif. NOTICE A rummage sale is to be held in the Guild Hall Saturday May 17th.
