1969 FEBRUARY: 13 | wy "THE OWL'S HOOT" SCHREIBER MEETS NIP-ROCK Schreiber's Golden Hawks and Senior Girl's basketball teams played in Nip-Rock last weekend. The Hawks and Lakers first game was a fast, clos checking game as Doug Stefurak totalled 12 points and Stan Spadoni, Greg Morrill and Dave Bromley each obtained 5 points. Still they were defeated 41-32, Nip-Rock's Asselin being the highest scorer in the game. During the girl's first game, Schreiber was behind 9-0; then they emerged victorious as they outplay- ed Nip-Rock by a score of 22-16. Mary Speziale scored 8 points and Nancy 'Lapenskie 7. On Saturday, a close game came to a margin of a few seconds with the Lakers in the lead when Doug Stefurak sank two foul shots to tie the game for overtime. The Lakers, however, maintained a lead and won by a score of 35-29. The Hawk's Greg Morrill achieved 12 points in this game. In the following girls game, Diane Campbell amassed 15 points for Schreiber, but Nip-Rock girls won the game 27 - 21. TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE 13 BAND PRESENTS CONCERT The Westgate High School Senior Band presented an in- | spiring concert Friday after- noon at Schreiber High School. Under the direction of Mr. Jewitt, a variety of music was played including folk, jazz and classical . The demonstration of the in- dividual instruments was at once humorous and informa- tive. ; An enthusiastic audience listened attentively fo the musical presentation and then awarded the band's fine performance with a standing ovation. Appreciation is extended to the Terrace Bay Kiwanis Club for making this possible. After mdny months of preparation by the teachers and pupils, the school library is finally open for use. It consists of all types of books;- children's, research, and information for projects . Also to help in understanding the projects are slides and filmstripes . With the willing help of Mrs. Tremblay, the lib- rary is being kept open every afternoon and on Wed- nesday evenings. The senior girls are happy to help her out during library hours. Schreiber High School was the location of the Elementary School Public Speaking Contest on Wed- nesday, February 12th. Five contestants from the North Shore area competed. Next week we will have the names of the winner and other contestants . Six student teachers from Lakehead Teachers College visited Holy Angels School this week. Pic- tures of them in action will be printed in next week's |. edition of the Angel's Harp.
