Mrs. Anna Laine and Miss Gwen Hadley of the Pub- lic School staff were in Port Arthur to attend the Educational Studies Workshop at Lakehead Teachers' College when the attendance was limited to 100. On Friday afternoon Rev. E.C.Prinselaar spoke to the students in grade four in Schreiber Public School. He wore a pair of klompens (wooden shoes) while describing his life in the Netherlands and brought many interesting spoons, buttons, delft dishes and other articles to show the children. A colored film strip illustrated the hard work being done by the resolute Dutch in making a country from the alluvial deposits of three European rivers. The pupils' interest was shown in the lively barrage of questions. ANNIVERSARY MARKED BY WOMEN'S INSTITUTE Schreiber Women's Institute marked its 40th anni- versary at the May meeting with Mrs.Harvey McCan na presiding and two charter members, Mrs.J.D. Bryson and Mrs.Forbes Macadam present. Mrs. Hattie Yandon of Rossport was welcomed as a new member. There are 10 Life members in Schreiber Branch. A donation was made to the Cancer Association. Meeting motto was "Face powder may get a man but it takes baking powder to hold him," and roll call was answered with the name of an article most enjoyed now which one's grandmother never knew. Hurkett Women's Institute, hosts of the district annual convention in Nipigon, wrote asking how many will attend from Schreiber . In her annual report Mrs.Ken Williamson stated _ she had sent 198 cards for various occasions last year Notice was received that Nipigon W.I., at their May 27 meeting, will celebrate Achievement Day. Those attending are asked to wear Centennial garb and bring antiques for display with a brief history. Centennial dress will be worn at the Schreiber WwW. I. Bern wacomb read a paper on or ganizing the first Women's Institute in the word on February 19, 1897, by Mrs.Adelaide Hoodless in Stoney Creek, Ontario, going on to describe its purpose and achievements through the years and its growth to a world-wide organization. Mrs .C .Todesco read a history of Schreiber which she has prepared to send to the Lord Tweedsmuir Book. Mrs.McCanna described organization of the Schreiber W.1. on May 6, 1927 under the direction of Mrs.Tomas Daley, Deistrict Director and Miss E. Brulotte, representative, Dept.of Agriculture, Home Economics. Mrs.W.McMullen was first president, Mrs.Gordon H.Reid the sec.treasurer and Mrs. H. J.Stewart district director, with 17 members joining The meeting day, 2nd Tuesday each month, has been kept ever since. In reading a list of officers during the years it was noted Mrs.B.F .Daniels was president 7 consecutive years with two other later terms;. Mrs.J.D.Bryson was president 4 consecutive. years and one term be- fore; Mrs .Raymond Bailey was sec.treasurer 7 terms, rs.W.R.Black served as 6 of them consecutive; district director 6 consecutive years and two other years later; Mrs. Nelson Smith was an officer ten times and all the others had served in various other offices. Mrs. Bill Thrower had also served seven years in various positions. Following the meeting some of the mothers and babies who had received the Town's silver New Year Cup and other gifts on occasions arranged by the W.I. since 1946, were entertained at a supper. These included Mrs.Jim Speziale and Rosa, Mrs. David Nesbitt, Mrs. Keith Ross with Sandra, Dale and Shirley (twins), Mrs.Ed.
