TERRACE BAY NEWS SCHREIBER NEWS Bill and Ray Cook were called to Bruce Mines this week owing to the illness of their mother. Mr. & Mrs. Ernest Willoughby have returned from Fushing, Michigan where they attended the funeral of Mr. Willoughby's mother, Mrs. F.C.Freeburg. Mr. & Mrs. John Inshaw of Toronto were here dur- ing the holidays. The Bank of Montreal staff and other friends met in the Harold Gellert home to honor Mr. & Mrs, D Smith who have been transferred to Winnipeg. Person al gifts were presented to wish them happiness in their new home. Attending the party were Mr.&Mrs. Peter Wojciechowski, Mr. & Mrs. Jim Crook, Art Jansen, Ken Lark, Anna Figliomeni and Larry Moore, relieving manager of Port Arthur. ~ Mrs. Earl Cameron (Marnie Rattray) of Sudbury and daughter Susan, were here last week oe Jack Rattray who is ill. - To form a Riley rink, the first in some years, grand- father George Riley came up from Mount Forrest with son Bill of Belleville. Carl Wubbenhorst visited Mr. & Mrs. Bill Kushnier- 'yk, enroute from Prince George, B.C. to a new position in New Glasgow, N.S. Mrs. Bob Gray visited her daughter Miss Dorothy Sly in Edmonton. Attending the Youth Conference in Fort Frances were Colleen Maclsaac, Lenore O'Brien, Marilyn Cook, Stanley Spadoni and D'Arcy Moorey . The group went on to Duluth where, while shopping, Colleen was offered a pre-teen modelling position, having to decline because her home is too far away. Jack Stokes, New Democratic Party candidate for Thunder Bay has returned from a tour of the Upsala -and Shebandowan area of the riding. -C.W.L. MEETING HELD ' The C.W.L. meeting was held April 9 in the Parish Hall with forty members present. Mrs. Nora Mc- Quire presided. Lila Morrill presented her annual financial statement. All other standing convenors gave their reports. _ Father Cano spoke on Catholic Youth Conference held in Fort Frances over the Easter holidays. New officers were installed and are as follows: President Nora McQuire, First Vice- Kathryn Stef- urak, 2nd. Vice Mrs. Dora McGrath, 3rd Vice Mrs. Irene Mcorey, Recording Secretary Jackie Tremblay, Correspondence Secretary Lorraine Huard, Treasurer Mrs. Helen LeBlanc. Mrs. ©. Dunham was initiated into membership at - A Legion social will be planned for May 19. Members were invited to attend a special Mass on April 26 at 5.15 p.m. honoring the Feast of Our Lédy of Good Counsel - patroness of the C.W.L. The Catholic Girls Club plan a Centennial Social to be held May 5 in the Guild Hall. Centennial gowns are' to be worn. King James Orchestra will provide the music. A penny auction is planned for April 28 in the Guild Hall . The Brownie and Guide Banquet will be held at 6.30 p.m. on April 26 in the Guild Hall. Tickets for the C.W.L. Convention, Banquet and Luncheon to be held in Terrace Bay, May 10 and II are available from Mrs. Lila Morrill. Following the meeting novelty entertainment , a cake walk, was arranged by Mrs. Irene Moor-v and enjoyed by all. A coffee hour ended a lengtay meet- ing. LEGION AUXILIARY PLANS PROJECTS the April meeting of the ladies auxiliary to he Royal Canadi an Legion, Branch 109. Further plans for a penny auction and bake sale were reported by Mrs. Earline Johnson - the venture scheduled for April 14. Mrs. Ruth Hiller and Mrs. Chris Morris are assisting Mrs. Johnson. White River Legion auxiliary sent an invitiation to their anniversary party on April 22. Plans for the Schreiber auxiliary birthday party on May 6 were discussed. _ Mrs. Marg. Stevenson reported on the membership committee. Mrs. Betty Luke reported on the district meeting at which she was a Schreiber delegate. Mrs. Lorraine Weaver, Mrs. Bobbie Winters and Mrs. Victoria Winters were appointed May lunch hostesses . Lunch for this meeting was served by Mesdames M. Stevenson, Gretchen Smith and Bern Whent. UNITED CHURCH WOMEN MEET Mrs. John Spillane presided for the April inet of the United Church women with I9 present. Sewing Convenor, Mrs. Oscar Niemi, reported two quilts completed and twenty five dollars handed in. The Archivist of the Presbytery wrote asking- Mrs .O. Niemi to keep the local church history up to date. A donation was made to the John Milton Society and another made to the U.C.W. Manitoba to aid their Centennial project of linking Northern Missions by two-way radio installation. (continued on Page 14)
