TERRACE BAY NEWS WELLIN GS RINK WINS LAKEHEAD BONSPIEL Once again , Congratulations are in order for Peg Wellings and her rink of Ann Latour, Aggie Sinkins, and Birdie Lambden, who captured first prize in the first event in the Lakehead Ladies International Bon- spiel over the past week-end, defeating the Lillian Childs rink from Fort William 6 to 5 in the final game Ninety-six rinks, representing all of Northwestern Ontario, Manitoba and the Northern United States, competed for the coveted Birks Stitt trophy and the diamond wrist watches which go to the winners. This is the second time in the history of the Lake- head Bonspiel, that it has been won by a rink from outside of the Lakehead, and on both occasions, a foursome from Terrace Bay, with Peg Wellings as skip, were the victors. The rink personnel was the same back in 1963 when they first won, except that this year, Peg had her sister Birdie Lambden, of Des- lisle, Saskatchewan, curling with them. Welcome to Terrace Bay Mrs. Lambden, and congratulations to you all on your excellent win. Plans are nearing completion for the local ladies Bonspiel to be held March 31, April | and 2. The Bonspiel is limited to thirty-two rinks, and from all indications this entry will be filled, as at time of writing, twenty-nine rinks had already entered, with the closing date of March 27 still a week away. Eighteen visiting rinks have entered from Port Arthur, Fort William, Heron Bay South, Sault Ste. Marie, Schreiber, Marathon and Red Rock with eleven rinks from the local club. With only three openings left, if you have not already entered, and plan on doing so, phone Louise Gavin, Bonspiel Chairman at 3552, right away and avoid being disappointed . With only fwo games left in the Club Championship Round Robin for the new O'Keefe trophy, a real battle is developing. At present, Ann Latour's rink is leading the pack with 7 wins, 2 losses. Close behind are Ida Romaniuk's rink and Peg Wellings rink with 6 wins, 3 losses. Several rinks are tied for third spot with 5 wins, 4 losses. The final games in the Round Robin play will be completed on Thursday of this week. Races commence at 9.30 a.m. and 2.00 p.m. In the morning races will be held for Junior Boys and Junior Girls. In the afternoon for intermediate girls, Intermediate boys, Senior ladies and Senior Men. Recently Mr. & Mrs. Moon took over the manage- ment of the Terrace Bay Bowling Lanes and Recrea- tion Centre Snack Bar and on the happy occasion of her seventy-fifth birthday presented Mrs. Storey with a corsage of yellow roses. Mrs. Storey who began lane bowling only four years ago, thoroughly enjoys the activity and is a lively member of the afternoon bowling league.
