Special commemorat- ive events were held from Oct. 13 to 16 in Warsaw, when a number of representatives from other Bible Societies in both East and West Europe were present. A special service of thanksgiving was held on Sunday, October 16. The highlight of the celebra- tions was the presentation, to the translators and other dignitaries, of the first copies of the new translation of the New Testa- ment in Polish. The current Bible text was translated over 300 years ago, and revised in the last cen- tury. Many Bibles are imported from England, in larger quantities that was possible before World War II; in addition, a number of Scriptures are produced in Poland. Scripture circulation in the last 20 years has averaged 100,000 copies annually, last year's figure being 166,000 copies (of which 20,000 were complete Bibles). As in so many other cases, Bible Society work in Poland be- gan at a time of great dearth of Scriptures. A Bible, it was said, was scarcely to be obtained at any price. MAY CONVENTION DISCUSSED The Catholic Women's League held their regular meeting in St. Martin's Parish Hall, at which President Mrs. Yolande Boudreau presided and reports were read and adopted. Plans for the Diocesan Convention in May came under discussion, and volunteers were asked for to assist in the preparations. Mrs. Gail Savoy read an interesting article setting forth twelve reasons for belonging to the Catholic Women's League, before Mrs. Boudreau presented Mrs. Irene Nicol with her Past President's pin. A social period followed with lunch served by Mrs.Angus and her committee.
