LIBERAL LEADER VISITS DISTRICT Liberal Leader Andrew Thompson paid a whirlwind visit to Northwestern Ontario last week, nanging through towns and villages east and west of th e Lakehead cities - making radio and television speeches and shaking hands with over 2,000 people. His appearance did not indicate that he had only had four hours sleep on each of the six nights of his trip when he dropped into the News office. He was accompanied by Mr. Bert Styffe of Port Arthur on a tour of the North Shore district when he spoke to groups of Liberals in each community and carried back to Queen's Park in Toronto the comments and complaints of area residents. S.J.CHICOINE HEADS KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS At a meeting held in Schreiber on June 9th the following were elected as officers of St. Edward's Council No.3554 of the Knights of Columbus:- Grand Knight, S.J.Chicoine, Deputy Grand Knight, R.E.Sinotte - Chancellor, T.Borutski - Recorder, L.Lalonde - Treasurer, A.J.Gauthier - Advocate, R.Marquis - Warden, E.Borutski - In- side Guard, N.Commisso - Outside Guard, A. Beaulieu - Trustee, J.L.Commisso. Rev. J.M.Cano is Chaplain and J.P.Guina is Financial Secretary. A wind-up party and entertainment for Knights and their families is planned for Friday, June 24 under the direction of brother Cos .Filane. Russell MacAdam is in Deer Lodge Hospital in Winnipeg for treatment. Mr.and Mrs.Brian Stewart and daughter Julie Anne of Duncan, B.C., are visiting their parents, Mr.and Mrs.H.Stewart and Mr.and Mrs.W.Murphy. Mrs. Bill Gerow is in Wardsville, Ontario atten- ding the funeral of her father, Peter King, retired engineer from Schreiber . Mr.and Mrs. John Radcliffe-Branch with Debbie Sue and Griffith, of Beloeil, Quebec are visiting Mr.and Mrs .F .MacAdam. Mrs .Roy Campion and Mrs.D.T.Evans of Van- couver and Mr.E.Millette of Bathurst, N.B., are visiting Mr.and Mrs.A.C .Rigelsford and Mr .and Mrs .D .Rigelsford of Schreiber and Mr.and Mrs. Vic Thorpe of Terrace Bay. Mrs.Wesley Clemens, Mrs.Oscar Laine and Mrs. Violet Vanderlip of Schreiber Public School at- tended the meeting of the Thunder Bay District Teachers! Association held in Marathon on June 4. Rev. D.F.Muldrew attended the Manitoba Con- ference of the United Church of Canada in Winni- peg last week. THE NEWS June 16 GIFTS PRESENTED TO DEPARTING TEACHERS At the last assembly for the year of Schreiber High School, Principal E. E. Forgues and L. R. McCuaig, chairman of the board, addressed students. Mr. McCuaig thanked students for their co-operation in main- taining the exceptionally good condition of the school. Although now in use for three years it still has the appearance of a new building. Farewell gifts were presented by the students to Bill Woodrow, going to Deep River High School; Eric Ashe, going to Blind River District High School; Don Ritchie, returning to Woodroffe High School, Ot- tawa; G. R. Nisyk, returning te Manitoba, and to Miss Joll, as wedding gift. Remaining on the staff are Mr. Forgues, Mrs. P. J. Mulli- gan, R. Cote, and J. P. Tessier. ANGLICAN GIRLS PRESENT PLAY Those attending the mother and daughter banquet of the Anglican girls' senior and jun- jor auxiliaries rocked with laughter ias members presented their version of '"'The Shooting of Dan McGrew." The cast was comprised of Carol Dimmery, Dorothy Harri- son, Christine Bottomley, Susan Harrison, Jane Bailey, Heather Tremblay, Brenda Dimmery and Linda Lidkea. : Dorothy Harrison gave the toast to the Queen and Rev. R. J. S. Inshaw the address of wel- come. Dorothy Harrison proposed the toast to the mothers with Mrs. Bruce Lidkea responding. Mrs, Inshaw gave the toast to auxiliary members and Linda Vidkea responded. Rev. D. F. Muldrew led in a sing sotg. Dances fnrough the years, including the minuet, can-can, square dance, twist and go-go were put on in appropriate attire by Carol and Brenda Dimmery, Linda Lid- kea, Heather Tremblay, Susan Harrison, Jane Bailey and Christine Bottomley. Mrs. Robert Gray, guest speaker, explained a motion made at the recent Women's Auxiliary Anglican convention in Haileybury, proposed finan- cial assistance to leaders of girls' auxiliaries who accom- pany them to festivals each year, Until now the leaders have paid their own expenses. Rev. Inshaw showed a film on work of the Canadian Bible Society. Gifts were presented to Mesdames Cyril Sparkes, J. D. Bryson, Bruce Lidkea, A. C. Rigelsford, A. W. Slater, W. G. Furlonger and D. Harrison, who prepared and served the banquet, Mr.and Mrs.Alec Gordon and son Clyde were in Toronto on June 3rd to attend graduation exercises of the Canadian School of Embalming in Knox College when their son Jack was a graduate. Jack is now associated with Gawley Funeral Home in Schreiber. George Riley of Mount Forest is here doing some fishing at Ross Lake and visiting his son George Jr., and family. J.D.Phillips attended a convention of the Hydro- Electric Power Commission in Ottawa. *° Mr.and Mrs .Elroy Zemle and family, from Wasau, Wisc., have been visiting Harry and Robin Hart, spending most of their time at the Hart camp at Lynn Lake. 1966
