Track and Field - Seventy-two registrations have been received for this activity and the program has been arranged to take place all summer with the intention of sending delegates to the various track meets in the district. Buck Matiowsky will head the club and his exper- ience in this field includes his attending two National League Track and Field Clinics at Guelph. He ex- pects the help of interested coaches. Extensive work is being done on the track, with the laying of cinders and several new pits have been completed. This is a big improvement on past seasons. NEW JUNIOR FASTBALL CLUB We welcome formation of a new Junior Fastball Club under the sponsorship of Zenmac Mines. Aver- age age of the players is seventeen and they have been fully equipped and fitted out with new uniforms. They will play in the Schreiber-Terrace Bay Fastball League. In a recent trade Billy Stachiw, who pitched for the Juniors last season, has gone to the Shell Oilers and the Juniors have acquired ace hurler Fern McLeod, pitching sensation here two years ago. The past two seasons Fern pitched for Red Rock, Nipigon and Ati- kokan. Zenmac Mines Team will complete in the July Ist Junior Fastball Tournament at Red Rock and should be strong contenders, bolstered by several junior players from Schreiber . Senior Men's Fastball Results In a recent game Filane's from Schreiber toppled Zenmac Mines 15 - 10. In an earlier game Shell Oilers edged Filane's by four. The First home run of the season was hit by Billy Stachiw for Shell Oil. From the calibre of players and their early perfor- mance this should be a boom year for senior fastball . Pitchers on all three teams are equally distributed as to prowess. Nick Chopty and Billy Stachiw will share mound duties for Shell Oil. Juniors will have CUFF wierH-- "There. Filane's of Schreiber have Harper and Gillard. PLAYGROUND LEADERS TRAINING COURSE Terrace Bay will host the first eastern division, North-Shore Playground Leader's Course. Previously such courses have been held at Quetico Training Centre and distance and the time factor involved have led to the division of the area into two sec- tions. Recreation Director Buck Matiowsky will be course co-ordinator and instructors will include Mrs .Mary Middaugh , Janice McInnes and Joanne Brown of Terrace Bay, Garry Dupas of Manitouwadge and Keith Svenson of Red Rock. Discussion leaders will include the following Recreation Directors, Carlo Cattarello of Red Rock, Ken Ward of Manitouwadge and Del Earle of Marathon. Candidates are expect- ed from Geraldton, Nipigon, Red Rock, Terrace Bay, Marathon and Manitouwadge . The program will include workshops on Games-- active and quiet - Crafts, Music, Drama and Story Telling - Physical Fitness (including Track and Field), also plenaries on the role of the playground leader and program planning. All the facilities of the Recreation Centre will be utilized for the courses of instruction and guinea-pig classes will be formed to provide practice for pros- pective leaders. During the course, Thursday, June 23rd to Sunday, | June 26th, candidates will be billeted in private homes, with all meals eaten in the Recreation Centre, cafeteria style. Junior Bowlers winning team - Back, Joanne Stevens, Lorne Pinkerton - front, Ricky Hamilton, Dan Edmunds. REGULAR MEETING - WOMEN OF THE MOOSE The Women of the Moose met on Wednesday night and new member Alexandria Jacques was enrolled. Treasurer Marg Duriez gave a report and plans were finalized to have the annual supper at the Voyageur Restaurant. Lunch and coffee were served by the executive. One of the smallest packages we ever saw was a man wholly wrapped up in himself.
