POLICE CHIEF EXPLAINS RULES TO CYCLISTS Police Chief $.W.limmerman held a meeting with twenty-four of the new owners of motorcycles to discuss the rules and regulations governing their operation. The group, both boys and girls, listened atten- tively ds Mr.Timmerman went into detail on several points--that these machines must obey the same rules as those governing any other motor vehicle on the roads - they must have three license plates where a car has one. Owners who have removed baffle plates from mufflers must replace them at once or fall foul of the law. Only one machine can occupy a parking space and, for obvious reasons, helmets should be worn at all times - and properly strapped to be of any use. Mr. Timmerman dwelt on the fact that most of the owners are inexperienced drivers for this type of vehicle and to this may be attributed some of the cause for the recent accidents, in two of which the drivers suffered painful injuries. Some thought should be given to the number of accidents occurring since it could result in all in- surance policies being cancelled as has been done in other communities. Drivers were also warned that the few who are flouting the law by using the sidewalk in the sub- way would be summarily dealt with. Mr.Timmer- man also suggested that the practice of cruising around town late at night, disturbing the rest of others, should be discontinued as a good citizen's gesture, rather than have it stopped when the law is invoked to curb it. Grade 8 pupils from both elementary schools were guests recently at the High School, observing physi- cal training, typing, science and library in prepara- tion to entering high school in the fall.
