Page 16 = BROWNIE BANQUET The annual Mother and Daughter banquet was held last Saturday in the Parish Hall of St.Martin's Church As usual the event was well attended and both moth- ers and daughters enjoyed the supper provided by the Catholic Women's League. Following the banquet a story "How the Tweenie Found Her Smile was told by Cadet Guider Miss Joan Doyle. The Rev.1.G.Husser gave an interesting talk on the significance of the color and symbols and the origin of the Religion Badge, which he then presented to Lesley-Rae Thompson. At the same time twelve Brownies were awarded their Golden Hand Badges. Those honored were Judy Kurylo, Candice Cotton, Lesley Rae Thompson, Sheila St.Louis, Marilyn Kujbida, Susan Whalen, Maureen Mikus, Brenda Chapman, Teresa Falzetta, Lee Ann Calder, Gail Gould and Maureen MacDon- ald. The evening closed with a singsong and a film "How Birds Got Their Color" followed by taps. CURLING NEWS The Terrace Bay Curling Club's Annual Bonspiel will commence at 6.30 p.m. Thursday,March 31st. Thirty-two rinks are entered--I4 local and 18 from the following district communities--Marathon, Manitouwadge, Hornepayne, Schreiber, Port Arthur and Fort William. The public is cordially invited to drop in and watch the curling. Admittance will be restricted only during the banquet and social on Saturday evening. Club Play-offs Play-off games will be required in all three divi- sions for the Club trophies. These games will be scheduled for Monday and Tuesday and should provide some good curling for 'spectator sportsmen. ' LeBlanc Wins Manitouwadge 'Spiel Carl LeBlanc skipped his Terrace Bay (?) team to top honours in the Manitouwadge bonspiel last week- end. Jim MacDonald played third, Jakie Jacobson of Fort William was second and Tom Marion of Mani- touwadge was lead. The team won individual troph- ies and Hudson Bay blankets. Terrace Bay was also represented by rinks skipped by Hector McLeod and Joe Dejonghe. Members are urged to give this impor- tant matter some thought and to be out on the I8th for the election. Annual Wind- Up The annual Wind-up will be held in the Moose Hall on May 7th. Keep this date open! INTERMEDIATE HOCKEY TOURNAMENT SATURDAY This Saturday Terrace Bay Arena will be the centre of the first Intermediate tournament held in this area. The calibre of teams is classified as Int.B and teams participating will be from Geraldton, Cameron Falls, Schreiber, Terrace Bay, Manitouwadge, Marathon, with the first draw getting underway at |0a.m. The tournament will run all day with the final game be- ing played at approximately 9 p.m. There will be a flat admission charge which will entitle fans to any hockey game throughout the en= tire day. If this tournament proves successful it may become an annual event and get the backing of the Thunder Bay Amateur Hockey Association. On the Terrace Bay roster are such players as Jack (Tiger) Phillips, Ray Hansen, Cy Brassard, Gale Savoy, Tony Costa, Paul Magi, Carl Rose and Kenny Rennette. Some confusion apparently resulted in last week's reporting of the Knights of Columbus -Masonic Lodge bonspiel. The following details were given to clarify the system used. The two organizations had six rinks each. Total points for and against resulted in the Masonic Lodge winning by two points. DISTRICT MAN SERIOUSLY INJURED A Schreiber resident, Leonard Huard, was seriously injured on a car-snow cruiser accident on the High= way east of Terrace Bay about 4.30 p.m. Saturday. Mr .Huard, who had been ice fishing in Jackfish Lake, had come out to the highway when the acci- dent occurred. He was thrown fifty feet by the im- pact. Given emergency treatment at Terrace Bay Hospi- tal, he was then rushed to Port Arthur by ambulance where he underwent emergency surgery.
